I stayed in this building the first time I came to NYC - in an old nun’s sweet - there was a bowling alley in the basement.
I live across the street and for the life of me, I can't understand why they're painting over that beautiful and historic stone work with cheap white paint. It looks gaudy and not in keeping with the history of the building. I wish they would rethink that decision.
Yes! Glad to see that space remain a theater but to paint over that beautiful stonework is a travesty. The building has a long interesting history going back to the 19th century -- as a Catholic school, orphanage, and so on --and the bright white paint they've splattered onto the ground floor stonework and the doors mars the whole building, one of the loveliest in the neighborhood. Please put it back how it was, Connolly! Your theater will look better and so will the street.
