Openings: Nuovo York Pizza on 9th Street

Nuovo York Pizza debuts today (Jan. 21) at 105 E. Ninth St. between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue.

Hours today: Noon to 6 p.m. 

There are some specials, like two cheese slices and a can of soda for $7. Find the menu here.

This space had been vacant since Toasted Deli went dark at the end of 2022 after nearly 18 months in business

Dude, it's not a "cheese slice," it's just a SLICE. Without cheese, it ceases to be a pizza.

People often ask for a "cheese" slice to differentiate it from the other from the other slices that come with toppings. Personally I usually just ask for a slice, or two, and point at the pie or slice I woulds prefer, typically the one that has a well baked crust. Cheese on a pie has nothing to do whether it's pizza or not. I've had many tasty non cheese slices in Rome. It's called Pizza Rossa. Bread and Salt in Jersey City makes them and I'm sure there must be a bunch of places in Brooklyn where you can some as well. The dough is more elaborate (oil is added) and the sauce is infused with fresh herbs.

Nah, in New York you don't say "cheese" slice, that's so weird. It's a slice. Yes, some pizza doesn't have cheese, and you can say whatever that specific slice is. But a regular slice is a slice.
