ICYMI: Patis Bakery is opening a café on the SE corner of 12th Street and Broadway (the Bean was here a few years ago before moving down Broadway to a larger space).
The bakery-café chainlet sells pastries, sandwiches, soups, salads, etc., at 15-plus locations in and around the NYC metropolitan area... this outpost might make for a decent post-Strand-splurge spot. (The bookstore is right across the street.)

I looked at a menu for one of their other locations and it looks kind of muddled and pretentious. Dishes with truffle oil, for example, and a sandwich called “the fougasse” that has nothing to do with fougasse and is served on a fruit and nut bread instead — it looks ok but why call it something it isn’t?
Eh, it's a mid-level sandwich/salad/pastries-type place, the kind of place that should be across from a big bookstore. There's one near a place I used to work. It's okay. Probably we can wait to hate this one til it actually opens.
