As previously reported, the property housed the Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel, which itself occupied a building that began life in 1925 as the Lemberger Congregation Anshei Ashkenaz, one of the East Village's many "tenement synagogues." 

The structure was eventually gutted for the condoplex.

Preservationists voiced concern about losing one of the neighborhood's remaining historic synagogue buildings, part of a broader wave of redevelopment reshaping the East Village and surrounding neighborhoods.
