Good news. Per EV Grieve reader rmom Friday evening: "Something Sweet is back. I walked by today, Cathy wasn't there but the son was."

Village Green opening its houses this weekend

Village Green, everyone's favorite "eco-indulgent" new condo on 11th Street, will be holding open houses this weekend. The $2 million penthouse is still up for grabs... According to the listings, at least nine of the 36 units are in contract.

Anyway, in case you can't make it, here's what it may or may not look like:

Upon seeing the open house ads, we thought the plywood on the ground level might be gone. As of last night, still no view of that gym.

Not so Sweet: Old school bakery temporarily closed

Rounding the corner on 11th Street at First Avenue yesterday, I saw a disturbing site...

Something Sweet is closed for a "personal matter." And the shop, open now some 30 years, is already missed...

If Village Green is so green, why are the lights left on all night?

Here we are at Village Green, the new condo going up at 311 E. 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. It is said to be the first LEED Gold certified building in the East Village. According to the marketing copy:

It began with a belief that better living is achieved through harmony: of mind and body, of time and place, of luxury and lifestyle. Introducing 311 E 11: Village Green. Developers Michael and Izak Namer created 311 E 11: Village Green with one goal in mind: to define environmentally responsible 21st century luxury living. 311 E 11: Village Green is targeted for LEED-Gold certification and serves as the vanguard for a new wave of eco-indulgent lifestyles. From its energy efficient amenities to the sophisticated wellness center it houses, 311 E 11: Village Green is the template for what all future luxury living will be.

I realize the lights will help keep intruders at bay. And I'm certain these are energy efficient lighting that makes the place a beacon of light from the avenues every night.

Anyway, the building is shaping up. Here's a view from the rear — also known as 12th Street, home, possibly of The Penistrator.

There are 36 units in total. Corcoran has 23 of them listed — with six in contract.

UPDATE: Curbed has more on it.

What's going on with the playground at Mary Help of Christians?

There was a fund-raiser for Mary Help of Christians outside the church on 12th Street near Avenue A this past Sunday.

There are still two masses here on Sunday mornings.

Anyway, seeing this fund-raising sign made me wonder.... Whatever happened to the sale of the former school's playground?

It has been nearly a year since The Real Deal reported the following:

Two thirds of a 15,000-square-foot East Village playground that was home to a popular flea market is under contract in a quiet, all-cash sale for $10.4 million to the Archdiocese of New York, court documents said.

The playground, divided into three ownership lots, is adjacent to the shuttered Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on the east side of Avenue A between 11th and 12th streets. The Archdiocese owns the church located on a 13,000 square foot lot, city records show.

The two parcels, under contract since July, total 7,500 square feet and are owned by a Roman Catholic order called the Salesian Society, based in New Rochelle, NY. The third part of the playground, totaling 7,500 square feet, is owned by the Archdiocese, records show.

The Archdiocese did not respond to requests for comment, but real estate professionals speculated the church parcel and playground would be sold and developed into residential housing.

The only thing growing here now are weeds. Which is fine by me. Couldn't this space be turned over for community use? Do we really need another condo or dorm?

The Mary Help of Christians market vendors relocated last fall to the playground behind Earth School, Thompson Square Middle School and P.S. 64 on Fourth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C. I believe the flea market is done for the summer, though...

Marshal law at former Citi-Spaces location

The Awl beat me to posting this. About the former Citi-Spaces offices on Second Avenue at 11th Street. Looks like the marshal came calling.

And did the landlord run out of paper for the windows? Or are they merely trying to keep the neighborhood children from seeing in....

Wedding notes

There was a wedding celebration behind 206 Avenue B on Saturday evening. And the couple-to-be were kind enough to leave notes about it on surrounding apartment buildings. They explained why the celebration was at 206 Avenue B: "We met there exactly four years ago so we decided to have this special day there."

Plus...

"Please be understanding in case it gets a little late and loud (but please know that there will be a lot of older people and kids so it won’t be a crazy party)."

Feel free to contact us in person if you have any concerns…"

A short history of Citi-Spaces at Second Avenue and 11th Street

As The Real Deal reported last Thursday, Citi-Spaces closed their office on Second Avenue at 11th Street.

The office was open for less than a year at this location. On this solemn occassion, let's take a look back at their history here!

It began June 17, 2008, when Jeremiah Moss noted this in his *Everyday Chatter:

Something weird is coming to the EV where a bodega used to be at 2nd Ave and 11th St. -- looks like a Mexican restaurant outside, with Moroccan-style lamps inside, but filled with many wooden cubicles, each with a computer terminal and an office phone. Hmm, DIY phone-sex biz?

Then! Shortly after its July opening, it was tagged.

Then it was tagged again in late winter...

...but someone had a change of heart a few weeks back. Just say no to the anarchy!

And now, it sits empty...

...with a new tenant forced to deal with the worst color scheme ever!

Speaking of ads...

There's also this new Vans campaign, as seen here on the Westville wall on 11th Street at Avenue A.

I don't really know what this ad is trying to say.

No anarchy?

For months now, the anarchy graffiti was on the wall of the real estate office on 11th Street and Second Avenue.

And now...

Interpret this any way that you wish.

Trainwrecks: Angels & Kings back open last night

First, a reader who lives near the bar confirms it in the comments from my previous Angels & Kings post.

And then the Angels & Kings Twitter account was spreading the news....

Meanwhile, someone sent me a link to Celebslam.com (a little NSFW depending on where you work) that had a report on Angels & Kings. Not really a report, but a brutal takedown of Wentz:

Pete Wentz is so fucked. Once all these 17 and 18-year-olds sober up, they're gonna realize how much Fall Out Boy blows. His album sales are gonna plummet. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him on a street corner in six months selling his body. "Hey Mister, I'll suck your cock real good if you buy me some eyeliner."

Wow. Uh. OK!

Will there still be a Trainwreck tonight at Angels & Kings?

According to the Angels & Kings Web site this afternoon, Trainwreck Tuesday is still a go for tonight.

Also, it looks as if someone removed the "closed for maintenance issues" line that was posted yesterday:

Meanwhile....um, there's this item from Sabrina Brody in the LA Gossip Examiner yesterday:

Your options for overpriced douchery just got slightly slimmer in New York City: Angels and Kings, the LES bar owned by Pete Wentz, has been closed down for receiving its third citation for serving minors. Don't worry, your opportunity to punch him in the face and scream FALL OUT BOY SUCKS while running screaming across the bar isn't gone for good. The bar will reopen after he responds to a court date, pays some insane fine, and probably watches some videos about America's Draconian drinking laws.
Hire a door guy, dude. There are a million heavyset, intimidating black guys in NYC perfect for the part. The cops are always looking for reasons to shut down stuff in the city, because of all the horrible people who moved into renovated condos in the Lower East Side for the 'authentic New York experience' and then started complaining about all the loudness and the bar crowd.

Such as serving alcohol to minors?

A spokesperson for Angels & Kings tells PEOPLE: "There was an outstanding legal issue which the owners are now working to correct."
