Noted

Up on 108 Avenue B and Seventh Street ... the Marvel-Coca-Cola ad is gone (and so close to the opening of "Deadpool & Wolverine") ...  and the banner for the nearby Peter Jarema Funeral Home is back (again).

Dead again: Peter Jarema Funeral Home ad replaced by the Marvel Universe on 7th and B

The ad for the Peter Jarema Funeral Home on the north-facing wall at 108 Avenue B and Seventh Street is dead.

Long live the ad for the Peter Jarema Funeral Home on the north-facing wall at 108 Avenue B and Seventh Street!

Yesterday morning, workers replaced the new ad (as of February) for the longtime East Village business with one for Coca-Cola and the Marvel Universe.

During exterior renovations last June (first reported here), workers sandblasted away the former ad for the funeral home that's on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.

The decades-spanning ad touted "Air Conditioned Chapels," and there was a smaller sign for "Vazac Hall Catering" (and "Fine Food"),  a nod to the business before the current and longstanding tenant Vazac's/the Horseshoe Bar/7B.

The mystery executive behind putting the Jarema banner back on the wall told the Post in February that the ad would come down this month... but may return during slower time periods.

Ad week in review

This past Thursday, workers removed the new floors-tall Peter Jarema Funeral Home from the north-facing wall at 108 Avenue B and Seventh Street... prompting several reader emails and photos...
This removal came after a new ad appeared here on Feb. 9. (Back story: During exterior renovations last June, workers sandblasted away the 60-year-old ad for the funeral home that's on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.)

While speculating why workers took down the ad (did they read EVG reader comments about the font?), it went right back up...
And later on Thursday...
Anyway, as you all were!

Thursday's parting shot

A future East Village trivia question: What was the last ad on the south-facing wall at 37 First Ave. before it was demolished

Answer: Little Simz for Vans.

And now, a word from our adverti...

As seen on Seventh Street... an Acne Stuidos ad with a message from a passerby: "These ads are disgusting."

Not to worry, it's probably already covered by another wheatpaste ad... these seem to have a 36-48-hour lifespan, if that.

You had your chance at the Cellino & Barnes ads on 14th Street

Despite a high-profile breakup, the iconic Cellino & Barnes — Injured? — ads still graced the L-train entrance on 14th Street at Third Avenue...

These ads for the personal injury lawyers, up seemingly forever, are collector's items in some circles.

And now — now! — they are gone...

Gone!

Last nite

Multiple EVG readers mentioned seeing the ad Friday night and last night for the upcoming (surprise?) Strokes record being projected on the above building on Second Avenue at First Street. (H/T @GramPeder!) The projector was atop Avalon Bowery Place across East Houston.

As several music sites noted, the band posted a video clip featuring artwork for the new project apparently taken from a 1981 Jean-Michel Basquiat piece titled "Bird on Money"...

The band last released a studio album in 2013.

[Updated] Honoring a kale blazer on St. Mark's Place

The Love Wall is no more on the side of Foot Gear Plus on St. Mark's Place at First Avenue... and going up today!

Woo, kale! Probably an ad for Naked's Kale Blazer flavor...

Everybody's working for The Weeknd!

As we wrap up the year, just a quick thank you to everyone here who made The Weeknd No. 1 in the East Village! Woo!

Someone apparently felt compelled to take part of Stephen Colbert's face

Stephen Colbert makes his "Late Show" debut tonight... perhaps that was incentive for someone to tear off part of the Colbert poster on Second Avenue and East Seventh Street... or maybe it was one of the ads that included the "Free Kim Davis" scrawl...

You're a good mural, Charlie Brown

This mural/ad started going up on East 12th Street near First Avenue yesterday… (And that is Charlie Brown, right? Looks like the lone shirt that he owns.)

You are no longer welcome!

Oh! Just noticed that the Welcome to the East Village/Modelo ad on East 12th Street at Avenue A has been blacked out…

The wall previously displayed an ad for the new season of the HBO television program "Girls."

Given that this appears to be an ad wall now … what ad would you like to see next? (Serious responses are OK.)

Important questions: What the hell is that?

Several people have asked us about the new ad or whatever that arrived on the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and East 10th Street this week. Like, what is it for?

We have no idea!

But people seem to be noticing it. We spotted five different people taking a photo of the ad while we were standing there yesterday for a minute.

Anyway, just enjoy it! One of these days, something tall and glassy will likely be standing on this corner.

Ad changer on the loose!

In recent days someone has taken a Sharpie (or whatever) to various ads around the neighborhood… providing some social commentary…

Today in advertising opportunities

Spotted on Third Avenue and NYU. What would you want to advertise here?

Monday, March 26, 2012

Why is this woman in 59J?

We don't know much about MiMa, the new tower on West 42nd Street that Curbed refers to as "the Magical Island of Many Amenities in Hell's Kitchen."

But we are enjoying the ads for it, such as this one on East 13th Street near Broadway...

The ads don't make it clear that this actress actually lives there. She's currently in 59J. Is she visiting? What is she doing there, aside from carrying her shoes and flashing some thigh? Does she still make movies and plays? Or is she retired? So she retired from acting and is now carrying her shoes in 59J? We just need more to go on here.

[EVG flashback] Off the wall

Our post from yesterday about the the closure of the Manhattan Parking Group at 74-84 Third Ave. at 12th Street ... and of the mysterious windows in the Yummy House building... prompted me to dig up this post from February 2009...

I'm always rather surprised to see the side of the building free of ads here along this stretch of Third Avenue near 12th Street...Been empty for at least a week since "The Pink Panther Part Duh" banner came down...

This is always prime ad space too. A short history of the wall from 2008...

BONUS FOR MAKING IT THIS FAR!

From July 2009...

Ad for Julia Child movie is oddly erotic

First, though, the latest ad to grace the building on Third Avenue near 12th Street.

And, um. Really? I'll say nothing else, in fear that I will appear in a blurb for the movie...
