The Marshal seizes Bar None on 3rd Avenue

Workers were spotted yesterday afternoon boarding up Bar None on Third Avenue.

In addition, there's a legal notice (dated June 2) posted via the Marshal, stating that the landlord now has legal possession of the sports bar here between 12th Street and 13th Street...

As we've seen in the past, a visit by the Marshal doesn't always mean the end for the business. Perhaps the landlord and tenant can work out a deal. 

Bar None was closed late last year for nearly a month. According to the legal documents dated from Nov. 18, "The property was seized for nonpayment of New York State taxes." 

The bar reopened in the middle of December.

Bar None returns to service on 3rd Avenue

Bar None is back open at 98 Third Ave. between 12th Street and 13th Street. 

As previously noted by mutliple readers, two yellow SEIZED stickers were affixed to the sports bar's storefront. According to the legal documents dated from Nov. 18, "The property was seized for nonpayment of New York State taxes."

Multiple readers have pointed out that Bar None is currently closed here at 98 Third Ave. between 12th Street and 13th Street. 

Two yellow SEIZED stickers are affixed to the sports bar's storefront. According to the legal documents dated from Nov. 18, "The property was seized for nonpayment of New York State taxes."

There isn't any mention of the closure on the bar's Instagram account.

These seizures aren't always permanent, as we've seen through the years.

For now, fans of the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and the Ohio State University are watching their games at different bars, per notes left on the front door.

Report: Bartender files federal complaint against Bar None for harassment

Bartender Kaitlin Day filed an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint last week alleging that Bar None, 98 Third Ave. between 12th Street and 13th Street, promoted a culture of sexual harassment and assault, according to published reports.

Per the Daily News:

The complaint alleges that owner Frank Steo let his friends use the basement as a crack den, the rain poured into the bar when the weather was bad and she had to put up with gross ogling from the toxic boss’s buddies.

And:

The last straw came on June 18, when a man Day believes is Steo’s cousin allegedly went behind the bar to serve himself. When she complained, the man, Kurtis Burns, put his hands on her breasts, squeezed her butt and tried to put his finger inside her vagina, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Burns was previously charged with multiple counts of harassment and assault stemming from a fight near the bar on June 2. The News reported that Burns failed to show up for previous court dates.

Day's attorney says that they plan to file a lawsuit after the EEOC makes its determination. Steo did not return calls for comment to the News.

Report: No charges for Sudanese diplomat who allegedly groped woman at Bar None

A Sudanese diplomat reportedly groped a woman at Bar None on Third Avenue early Sunday morning, then tried to run from police. However, according to the Daily News, the NYPD had to cut him loose because of his diplomatic status.

Per the News:

The 23-year-old woman told cops that Hassan Salih, 36, pawed her breasts and buttocks about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Bar None on Third Ave. near 13th St., officials said.

The disgusted woman grabbed a bar security guard to report what happened and they called the police.

The cops arrived and detained Salih as they conducted interviews, and that's when the diplomat tried to make a run for it.

Salih was caught and brought to the 9th Precinct on Fifth Street. Given his diplomatic immunity, though, police released him.

Per the Post:

The website for the Sudanese Mission to the UN lists Salih as a “second officer” — a mid-level position requiring five to 10 years of experience, according to the international group.

In May, he was selected to represent Sudan on a UN committee that oversees non-governmental human rights groups, according to UN Watch.
