In submitting this photo from St. Mark's Place near Avenue A today, EVG regular Jose Garcia (jg) asks a reasonable question:
If there is any sort of "Best in Show" category might this specimen be worthy of consideration given how much fancier it is than the average belatedly discarded holiday tree?

The question is now in the hands of the holiday steering committee

Saturday's parting shot

A reader shared this photo today on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... a Merry Christmas and a blessed Memorial Day Weekend to everyone!

As seen this morning on 11th Street at Second Avenue by Lola Sáenz.

This Christmas tree (complete with lights) looks extremely (and suspiciously?) healthy. Who's up for a tree rescue and another binge of "A Christmas Story"?

Thanks to EVG reader Garth for sharing these photos today from Fifth Street between Second Avenue and Cooper Square... where a discarded Christmas tree — complete with lights — lies conveniently in a move-in-ready bag... Just grab and go and be the holiday envy of your friends and neighbors this coming Memorial Day weekend...

EVG reader Cajsa spotted this discarded beauty casually discarded alongside P.S. 64 Robert Simon on Sixth Street near Avenue B. No word if the Christmas tree had been decking the halls recently inside the school.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Louise and Danny spotted this pine-fresh Christmas tree on 10th Street between and Avenue B and Avenue C today...

Happy Memorial Day!

Neal H. spotted this beauty on 11th Street today... it looks pretty fresh. Perhaps this is on the way in rather than the way out?

The EVG reader who shared the above photo admits that there was debate whether this discarded item on Avenue B near Fourth Street was once actually a tree used in the celebration of Christmas. (Also called a Christmas tree.) Will update the post upon any verification that traditional ornaments, such as garlands, baubles, tinsel and candy canes, were, in fact, hanging from this tree.

A Mother's Day gift

EVG regular Jose Garcia shared these photos... a discovery that he made late-last night on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C...

Per Jose:

My guess is the prior caretaker(s) carried it out to dispose of it under cover of darkness.

Is there a walk of shame equivalent for discarded holiday shrubbery?

Hi, and welcome. Just wishing you all an early Merry Memorial Day Christmas.

On this first Sunday in May, someone decided that it might be a good day to toss the Christmas/holiday tree ... and did so on Avenue A and Sixth Street so that we can all enjoy it for a little longer.

Thank you to EVG reader Eli for the photo.

Beloved Chinook RV still transporting precious holiday tree cargo

[Back in March via Andréa Stella]

Back in March, we noted the above holiday-tree-carrying Chinook RV here along East 14th Street near Avenue A.

Fast-forward to today, when a special EVG correspondent spotted the Chinook on the road (Avenue B and Third Street) ... still with the [much deader] tree on top...

Per the EVG special correspondent: "Note that the tree is tied on firmly with red cord — as if it’s really important or something?"

Is that a question?

A wet Christmas forecast

As these photos suggest, late April is a popular time to discard the ol' Christmas/holiday tree... on city sidewalks... and in waterways...

EVG reader Carol spotted this scene yesterday at Stuyvesant Cove. As she notes, "judging by the buoyancy and needle mass, I'd guess it went in recently." Indeed.

EVG reader Riian Kant-McCormick sends along the photo with the following:

How can it be? I have no proof of date beyond the rain, but behold a very merry smelling tree at 13th and Avenue A.

And to all a good night.

Perhaps the storm below it here from January?

Well, then! Goggla spotted this today on Second Avenue near East Fifth Street.

She did not include any kind of verification with the photo ... though she did mention something about "witnesses." (She has YET to produce said "witnesses.")

In any event, if it was up to us, then we'd go ahead and hand over the prize/award* for finding the latest discarded holiday/Christmas tree in the neighborhood.

However, there are rules, and all this is closely monitored by the International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring (ICTTS). So we will wait for them to intervene just as soon as the trial ends.
