Spotted Owl Tavern opens today in the former Destination space on Avenue A

John Cutillo, the owner of Local 138 and Iggy's Keltic Lounge on Ludlow Street as well as the Grand Victory in Williamsburg, opens his latest venture today.

Look for the Spotted Owl Tavern on the northwest corner of Avenue A and 13th Street ... in the former Destination space. We're told that the vibe will be old-school neighborhood bar.

And there is food. The owner-chef of Black Tree over on Orchard Street helped create the pub-style menu.

The Spotted Own Tavern opens daily at 3.

Destination Bar opened in the summer of 2009 … and closed this past Feb. 1.

Destination Bar has closed on Avenue A, will reopen as Destination Bar

The bar on the northwest corner of A and 13th Street closed for good after service yesterday.

But this closure won't be for long — at last as far as the name goes.

Back in October, CB3 OK'd the sale of assets to the current owners of Local 138 and Iggy's Keltic Lounge on Ludlow Street.

According to minutes (PDF!) from the October CB3 full-board meeting, the new owners are retaining the Destination Bar name.

No word yet on a Grand Reopening.

Destination Bar opened in the summer of 2009 in the former Boysroom space.

When people stop being polite... and start getting drunk

Outside Destination on Avenue A and 13th Street.

We have a feeling that we'll hear more from Flint-native Shawn Chittle on this matter. (And Shawn took the pic.)

Via the bar's Twitter feed...

We just reached out to one of the owners of the bar here on Avenue A and 13th Street for more information.

Walking on Avenue A between 12th Street and 14th Street last night around 8:15, noticed modest crowds at Drop-Off Service, Common Ground and Destination (below)...

CB3 to explore bar-related noise issues on Avenue A?

As you may know, two new bars opened this summer on Avenue A between 12th Street and 13th Street. We haven't talked much about Destination, now at the corner of 13th and A in the former Boysroom space. Mostly because we don't know much about it. So we looked it up. Here's a description from Grub Sreet:

Destination has what one of the operators (they include owners of Paladar and Iggy’s Karaoke Bar) has already deemed a “make-out corner,” and there are Jell-O shots with gummy tequila worms and whiskey-infused Rice Krispie treats.

The double whammy of Destination and Superdive (both taking over spaces that have been empty for more than a year, if not longer in the case of the Boysroom) are apparently creating quality-of-life issues for residents. Based on these fliers someone distributed on Avenue A, it looks as if the CB3 is ready to listen.

There is a phone number on the flier. I'll pass it along if you'd like it.
