Last day for Dun-Well Doughnuts on St. Mark's Place

Dun-Well Doughnuts concludes its three-plus-year run today at 102 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue.

As we first reported on Tuesday, the vegan doughnut purveyors decided to shut down this outpost to work on other areas of the Dun-Well business.

Here's the official announcement on Instagram:

In order to focus upon new endeavors at our flagship Brooklyn location and to expand our wholesale operations, we have decided to close our St. Mark's location this month. This is a bittersweet decision as we have loved being part of the St. Mark's community over the past few years. We hope you’ll continue to support us as we move into our next chapter!

Dun-Well can now be found in almost 20 NYC locations including several Whole Foods Markets and cafes throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens and we plan to expand our reach to bring our doughnuts to an even larger community.

Christopher Hollowell and Dan Dunbar opened the first Dun-Well in East Williamsburg in 2011. They debuted on St. Mark's in July 2016, shuttling in fresh doughnuts daily from their Montrose Avenue HQ.

The posted hours today are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., though you should likely get there sooner rather than later...

Dun-Well Doughnuts is done with St. Mark's Place

After three-plus years of serving vegan doughnuts from 102 St. Mark's Place, Dun-Well is closing its East Village outpost this coming Sunday (Feb. 16).

The storefront recently arrived on the rental market, and we knew something was up — a move or a closure.

Dun-Well made the announcement on Instagram yesterday:

Given the outpouring over the closing announcement on Instagram, Dun-Well will be missed on St. Mark's Place.

The vegan doughnut shop-cafe opened yesterday at 102 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue.

This is the second outpost for the popular East Williamsburg-based shop started in 2011 by friends Christopher Hollowell and Dan Dunbar.

Dunbar told Gothamist last month that the operation here will be very similar to their Brooklyn original, "with their full lineup of vegan doughnuts and pastries like pull-aparts, which they'll shuttle in daily from Montrose Avenue."

Dun-Well also serves coffee drinks (and are hiring a barista).

Dun-Well will be back open tomorrow morning at 9.

[Updated] Brooklyn's Dun-Well Doughnuts opening an outpost on St. Mark's Place

At the beginning of June, we heard that a vegan doughnut shop was opening at 102 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue. We didn't have more info, other than that the baking would be done off-premises.

Now EVG correspondent Steven notes that the sign arrived for Dun-Well Doughnuts ... the second outpost for the popular East Williamsburg-based vegan doughnut shop started in 2011 by friends Christopher Hollowell and Dan Dunbar.

No word on an opening date here at the space that previously housed New York Macaroni Co. and Puddin'.

Updated 1:30 p.m.

Per Gothamist:

Dunbar says the operation will be very similar to their Brooklyn original, with their full lineup of vegan doughnuts and pastries like pull-aparts, which they'll shuttle in daily from Montrose Avenue. "Right now it's a doughnut and coffee shop," according to Dunbar, who hopes to have their ice cream operation at the Manhattan spot at some point, too. Espresso drinks, Brooklyn egg creams, tea and lemonade will all be available at the St. Mark's shop.
