New East Village IHOP will employ more than 200 people

On Saturday, we pointed out the newly unveiled exterior of the East Village IHOP on East 14th Street between Third Avenue and Second Avenue ... Meanwhile, Jennifer London, who operates Xoom across the street, met the new manager, who said that IHOP was hiring more than 200 people to start. Quite an operation...

And EV Grieve reader Tom wonders is this exterior will be similar to the Harlem IHOP location...

Behold your East Village IHOP

Workers have removed the plywood here on 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue... Pretty low-key looking. So far! A quick look inside confirms the interior will be very similar to the one going in Bushwick.

[Thanks to Jennifer at Xoom for the tip!]

BaoHaus signage now up on East 14th Street

As Eater first noted, chef/foodie personality Eddie Huang is opening a second BaoHaus location ... this one on East 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

Among other things, the shop will feature a "Great Wall of Chinamen" with images of Connie Chung, Genghis Khan, RZA, Gizmo the Gremlin, William Hung, Confucius, Chairman Mao, Kung Fu Panda and Long Duck Dong.

BaoHaus 2 takes over the space that previously housed Thai Me Up. The sign in the window says opening in July 2011.

Xoom opening on 14th Street this Thursday

Xoom president Jennifer London writes in to say that her smoothie shop is opening on Thursday. Xoom moved here adjacent to the CitiFitness space from Seventh Street back in the spring. There is a grand opening party on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. with free samples. The new hours are 7 am - 9 pm Monday through Friday and 8 am - 9 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Super Saving Store closing on 14th Street

Here at 14th Street and Third Avenue... some signs say "store closing" ... others say "closing for renovations." We asked one of the fellows guarding the sales racks. Didn't exactly get a straight answer. Ultimately, the store is closing for good.

Not a surprise. The store is in the shadow of the luxury 123 Third Avenue, where residents likely won't have a need for butt-revealing denim shorts (two for $10!). The other corners include the Duane Reade and the incoming 5 Napkin Burger. Meanwhile, a few of the 99-cent stores remain on 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...

Exquisite DVD Video now featuring 'store for rent' signs

While checking out the IHOP sign the other day, I noticed that the Exquisite DVD Video store next door on 14th Street is on the block...

It's still open, so you have a chance to buy one of the 50 copies of "Perfect Stranger" that they seem to have.
