Something for future generations to discover on 2nd Avenue
The incoming 10-story residential building continues its ascent at 24 Second Ave. and First Street ... EVG regular Daniel points out the the construction is getting ready to obscure the the mural by Brazilian twins Os Gêmeos ...
The mural went up at the former site of the BP station in August 2015 ... nearly one year after the BP shut down.. (There's also a mural of a ballerina by French street artist JR on an adjacent building facing the lot.)
Permits show some 45,000 square feet for the 31 residences (rentals? condos?) … and another 5,700 square feet for the commercial space. And, as a reminder, the rendering...

A ballerina for 2nd Avenue
The mural by Brazilian twins Os Gêmeos has some company now on Second Avenue at East First Street...
We noticed someone working on the adjacent building in the empty lot last evening...
... and today...
We're told that it's the work of French street artist JR. (See his other NYC ballerinas here.)
You have some time to enjoy it before the 10-story building with 31 residences and ground-floor retail goes up here.

Os Gêmeos on 2nd Avenue
If you been walking on Second Avenue near East First Street, then you've likely seen the new mural going up next to the former BP station on the corner.
As BoweryBoogie noted yesterday, this is the work of the Brazilian twins Os Gêmeos … Goggla shared the above photo from yesterday… we walked by earlier this morning, and they were just starting work…
… and a view from the cherry picker…
A 10-story retail-resident complex has dibs on the former BP property.
P.S.
There is a new mural going up at Bloom 62 on Avenue B as well… will post about that later. Update: That post is here. (Ditto for the new mural on East Third Street next to the shelter.)

The Os Gêmeos mural on Bowery and Houston is gone
This street mural by Brazilian street artists and identical twins Os Gêmeos went up at the Bowery and Houston last summer...
And, sometime during the weekend, it was removed...
Jeremiah has more on the history of this corner and what might be coming here next...

Last day for the Os Gêmeos mural on Bowery and Houston?
This street mural by Brazilian street artists and identical twins Os Gêmeos went up at the Bowery and Houston last summer... Today is apparently the last day for the mural ... (The Deitch Projects Web site confirms this.) L Magazine (via BoweryBoogie) reported that Shepard Fairey will be the next (and last?) artist to paint the billboard space at this intersection.

Os Gêmeos taking over for the Haring mural at Houston and Bowery
Animal New York has the scoop on what's taking over the wall at Bowery and Houston that was home to the temporary Keith Haring tribute....According to Animal, expect a new work by Brazilian street artists and identical twins Os Gêmeos. The Graffiti Friend of EV Grieve said that he approves of this selection.
