On the CB3 agenda tonight: AMA Raw Bar on Avenue B, The Pineapple Club on 6th Street

There are several items of interest on tonight's CB3-SLA docket. Here's a look at two of the applicants:

• 190 Avenue B

A restaurant going by AMA Raw Bar is in the works for the former Kingsley space between 11th Street and 12th Street.

The food here is described as "Asian seafood," per the questionnaire posted to the CB3 website. The applicant, listed as Harvey Woo, plans to use the backyard garden. In total, there are 30 tables for 64 guests as well as a 10-seat bar. The proposed hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday; until 3 a.m. on Friday ... with an 11 a.m. open on Saturday and Sunday.

Kingsley closed back in early September without any notice to patrons after three-plus years in business.

• 509 E. Sixth St.

The Pineapple Club will be bringing "American Polynesian" cuisine to the former Out East space here between Avenue A and Avenue B.

The public questionnaire on the CB3 website shows that the two-level space will have 40 tables seating 101 guests, with another 20 seats for the bar. The proposed hours are listed as 5 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 4 a.m. close Thursday through Saturday, and 10 p.m. on Sunday. There's also a brunch service on Saturday and Sunday.

The questionnaire doesn't mention the background experience for the applicants — listed as Travis Odegard, Panos Kourakos and Nazar Hrab.

There's also a sample menu with the online questionnaire ...

Like Kingsley, Out East quietly closed... the space went dark in December 2017 after eight months serving a seafood-centric menu from the proprietors behind places like Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social.

Tonight's CB3-SLA committee is at the Perseverance House Community Room, 535 E. Fifth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B. You can frontload at Sophie's or the Ace Bar on the block.

Grey Lady owner looking at new venture for the old Out East space on 6th Street

A co-owner of Grey Lady on Delancey Street (and Grey Lady East in Montauk) is among the applicants vying for a new liquor license for the former Out East Space on Sixth Street, according to documents on the CB3 website.

There's not much information about what type of restaurant applicant Callum McLaughlin tends to open at Out East, which closed without any notice after eight months in business last December here between Avenue A and Avenue B. CB3 describes this as a sale of assets.

Presumably the new venture will be a seafood-centric spot similar to the Nantucket-style food served at Grey Lady. (McLaughlin is a Nantucket native.) New York magazine says the Grey Lady's "brief menu is a pleaser." Out East aspired to have a (new) Montauk beach vibe.

The CB3 questionnaire shows proposed hours of 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, with an 11 a.m. opening on Saturday and Sunday. The bi-level space has room for 38 tables — seating 96 diners. (There are also two, 10-seat bars on each floor.)

McLaughlin previously looked at opening an oyster bar and restaurant on the Upper East Side in early 2017. Those plans apparently never materialized.

CB3's SLA committee meets Monday night at the Public Hotel, 17th Floor, Sophia Room, 215 Chrystie St. between Houston and Stanton. The proceedings start at 6:30.

Former Out East space for lease on 6th Street

The former Out East space on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue is on the market. (And someone replaced the black trash bags on the windows with brown paper.)

Here's part of the listing (via Sinvin — PDF here) for the two-level space, which underwent an extensive gut renovation to make it Out East:

$22,035/month (including taxes & common charges) - Key money - $239,000 - Two full 2 AM liquor licenses - Public Assembly permit for 140 people - New million dollar installation - Legal lower level has kitchen, dining room, bar and lovely glass atrium with soaring 20' ceiling - New handcrafted wood storefront - In the heart of the East Village

The seafoody restaurant, which reportedly took its inspiration from coastal Long Island , opened last April before quietly shutting down in mid-December.

Garbage bags now adorn the windows at Out East

Out East has been closed the past two months here on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B.

There hasn't been any sign of activity at the restaurant — except for the black trash bags that someone covered the windows with last week...

There was never any announcement about a closure at the seafood-centric restaurant that aspired to bring a little Montauk to Sixth Street. The Out East website has "expired" while Open Table notes the place has permanently closed.

One EVG reader who dined here a few times noted that after a strong debut last April, Out East quickly fell apart, with disorganized service and marginal food and portion size for the price.

The operators of the two-level, 124-seat restaurant — which underwent an extensive gut renovation to make it Out East — have been involved with hotspots such as Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social. Perhaps they will try something different in this space.

Out East remains closed on 6th Street

As noted back on Thursday, Out East has been dark in recent nights during announced business hours here on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B.

The closure continued through the weekend ... and still without any note to patrons on the door or the restaurant's website and social media platforms. Meanwhile, OpenTable shows that reservations aren't available at Out East until Jan. 13.

As Eater noted: "It hasn’t been the easiest eight months for the restaurant, with at least two head chef shuffles already occurring."

Out East has not been open the last few days

Out East has been dark the last two nights during announced business hours here on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B, a curious development given that this is traditionally a busy holiday period for restaurants.

There's nothing to note a temporary closure on the front door or on their website or social media properties.

The Out East Facebook page posted this yesterday ... even though the restaurant wasn't open ...

Out East opened back in the spring. The operators of the two-level, 124-seat seafood-centric restaurant here have been involved with hotspots such as Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social.

OpenTable shows that reservations aren't available at Out East until Jan. 13.

Out East opens Friday out on 6th Street

Out East, which will serve "New American fare with influences from the coastal regions of Long Island," opens Friday at 509 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

The restaurant is currently in friends/family mode. According to a neighbor, front-of-the-house staff was spotted lined up outside early Friday evening for the start of training. The Out East team includes chef Tim Meyers (an alum of Charlie Bird), Peter Kane (Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social), and Anthony Serignese (formerly of Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social).

According to a statement to Eater last December: "Out East is the stylish, coastal cosmopolitan, downtown dining destination that transports guests away from the city for a night." According to an online listing, the bi-level restaurant "pulls inspiration from Montauk, with interiors reflecting the essence of a seaside getaway and a New American menu with influences from Southern coastal France."

And here's a look at part of the seafood-centric menu...

Meanwhile, across Sixth Street, Baron's Dim Sum is open for business...

Out East bringing a coastal taste of Long Island to 6th Street

[EVG photo from August]

As we first noted back in the summer,, veteran restaurateur Peter Kane (Bowery Meat Company, Stanton Social, Essex & Beauty, etc.) is opening a two-level restaurant called Out East on 509 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

Reps from Out East, whose team includes chef Tim Meyers (Charlie Bird) and Anthony Serignese (formerly of Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social), released more details about the venture.

As Eater noted:

Out East will serve "New American fare with influences from the coastal regions of Long Island." It’s largely inspired by the beach, which is the partners’ "preferred downtime destination."

Apparently the restaurant will be a spot for any New Yorkers who want to leave the city but do not want to actually go to Long Island: "Out East is the stylish, coastal cosmopolitan, downtown dining destination that transports guests away from the city for a night."

Well, it's really a quiet block for a downtown dining destination. Apparently some neighbors are cool with this: According to CB3, there were 52 signatures of support from area residents when the full liquor license went up for approval last July.

In any event, Out East will have a seafood-centric menu with a raw bar. Out East is expected to open next month.

Out East quietly announces itself on 6th Street

As previously reported, veteran restaurateur Peter Kane (Bowery Meat Company, Stanton Social, Essex & Beauty, etc.) is one of the applicants behind a new project in the works for 509 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

The venture, serving "new American cuisine," is called Out East, which has been added to the front door here...

CB3 OK'd a liquor license for the space last month. The paperwork (PDF) filed at the CB3 website ahead of the meeting revealed a fairly large establishment — a two-level restaurant space with 38 tables for 104 diners plus two small bars seating 16 people total.

Here's what CB3 had to say about the applicant via the official July meeting notes:

Community Board 3 is approving this application for a full on-premises liquor license although this is a location in an area with numerous full on-premises liquor licenses because 1) this applicant has experience operating numerous licensed businesses without complaints within this community board district, 2) the applicant has demonstrated support for this application, in that it has furnished fifty-two (52) signatures from area residents in support of its application, and 3) there is an existing restaurant at this location with a full on-premises liquor license.

Well, there isn't an existing restaurant at this location. The space is empty. The last full-time tenant here was Kion Dining Lounge maybe about seven years ago. As far as we can recall, the last tenant here was a pop-up bar from the folks behind the Buenos Aires Restaurant during the 2014 World Cup.
