The Copper Still signage is up, and an opening is near

As we mentioned last Thursday, Ryan's Irish Pub at 151 Second Ave. closed after 22 years here near East Ninth Street ... to make way for The Copper Still, run by partners who include a former Ryan's manager.

Workers finished up the façade yesterday, as you can see from the above photo. According to the bar's Facebook page, they'll be opening today, if all goes well.

On 2nd Avenue, Ryan's Irish Pub has closed to make way for the Copper Still

Ryan's Irish Pub, a dependable enough place through the years (it opened in 1992), has closed at 151 Second Ave., as these photos by EVG regular esquared™ show.



Meanwhile, new operators are opening The Copper Still here between East Ninth Street and East 10th Street. One of the principals served as a manager of Ryan's the past year.



A look at their menu shows an emphasis on whiskey ... with a menu featuring pub fare such as burgers, mac n' cheese, fish n' chips, etc.

Perhaps the Copper Still will continue to serve as a less woo-ey alternative to The 13th Step next door.

CB3 approved the new liquor license for this address last month.

A refurbished Ryan's is now open

After being closed for six weeks, Ryan's Irish Pub on Second Avenue near Ninth Street reopened on St. Patrick's Day...




The bar is longer and wider now (uh, the actual bar, not the building...) ... but they did away with the menu -- no more food...And the work in the pub isn't quite done yet...

A work permit at Ryan's Irish Pub

There's now a work permit in the window of Ryan's Irish Pub on Second Avenue near Ninth Street. (One wasn't visible when the place first closed earlier this month.) I had been told by a reliable source that this closure was only temporary. You can click on the photo for a better view...looks as if they're remodeling the restrooms and reconfiguring the stairs. No change of occupancy.

Was surprised to find the always reliable Ryan's Irish Pub on Second Avenue near Ninth Street closed the other day...




However, a source told me this is just temporary, and that they're doing a little "remodeling." Still, you'd think the Ryan's folks, who also own Bull McCabe's and the Thirsty Scholar, would put a sign on the door telling what's going on now...
