On 2nd Avenue, Ryan's Irish Pub has closed to make way for the Copper Still

Ryan's Irish Pub, a dependable enough place through the years (it opened in 1992), has closed at 151 Second Ave., as these photos by EVG regular esquared™ show.

Meanwhile, new operators are opening The Copper Still here between East Ninth Street and East 10th Street. One of the principals served as a manager of Ryan's the past year.

A look at their menu shows an emphasis on whiskey ... with a menu featuring pub fare such as burgers, mac n' cheese, fish n' chips, etc.

Perhaps the Copper Still will continue to serve as a less woo-ey alternative to The 13th Step next door.

CB3 approved the new liquor license for this address last month.

Oh good, a nondescript, generic, pub crawl stop that serves beer and the food that goes with beer...because we don't have that yet! I welcome your sliders, mac & cheese, and deep fryer to Avenue Woo!

"less woo-eh" 20 somethings can afford better booze than ever before so barfing single malt scotch is not a big deal to them.

This block needs another bar as much as the East Village needs another bro in salmon pants and boat shoes.

I think it opened in 1992, not 1982.

Too bad, always did a good burger. By the way "Ryan's" opened in 1992.

Thanks... I changed the date to 1992...

Ryan's has been terrible since 2011 when they closed for 3 months then re-opened as a shitty version of what used to be a good neighborhood bar. Food hasn't been good since then either.

I think Ryan's changed ownership within the last few years. I haven't been in there for quite a while. When they owned Thirsty Scholar, for a few years they would have a hot buffet on week days around 5 - 6 o'clock. The owners were always very nice and generous. I'll miss that place. I remember 10 or 12 of us old EV drunks would cure our hangovers there every Saturday over brunch.
