A reader shares this on Suffolk Street today...
"I love this. SUV and car pull up seperately. Park on 'no parking' side of street. Both drivers reach down and put handicap placards in windshield. Both car empties of healthy mobile people and they all walk off ..."

Rentals likely at Houston and Suffok
[EVG file photo]
Two weeks ago, BoweryBoogie brought the news that the owner of parcels of land on East Houston — specifically the now-vacant 255 (above) — and Suffolk Street are seeking a rezoning here.
This afternoon, Crain's is reporting that bids are due tomorrow for the L-shaped space, where a building of up to 70,000-square-feet could be constructed. Those involved with the sale believe the new owner will go for apartments here. Per Crain's: "'The site is a great footprint in a next great neighborhood,' said Nat Rockett, executive vice president at Cushman & Wakefield Inc., which is marketing the site.
Here is 255 E. Houston, which will be demolished in the process, from a few years ago...

Life in a building undergoing a gut renovation
In February, we noted the sale of a residential building on Suffolk street...
Per a commenter:
"There are 7 apartments left here as of April 2011 and we are suffering through months of demolition and construction."
One of those remaining residents (we think!) sent along a video of what life is like here in the building during the months of construction...
Silverstone Property Group ... is pleased to announce the acquisition of 157 Suffolk Street ... The 6 story, 22,398 square foot residential apartment building consists of 33 apartments and 2 retail stores. Silverstone purchased the building for $8.8M, or approximately $392 per square foot, in an all-cash, off-market transaction with the private seller. Silverstone will be renovating the building to create a high-end boutique residential rental property, as well as leasing the retail space which has been vacant for many years.

The Lower East Side gets another 'high-end boutique residential rental property'
From the EV Grieve inbox...
Sooo... dumb question, but what happened to all the former residents of this pre-high-end boutique residence? Buy outs?

Dumpster of the day (month? year?)
The ultra, ultra rare porta-potty/dumpster combo. Nice if there's an overflow, but not real practical for everyday use. On Houston near Suffolk. Many thanks to the EV Grieve reader for the photo!

Dumpster of the day
On Suffolk near Delancey. Hmmm, residual waste!
The dumpster was there alongside the space for lease signs at 128 Delancey that BoweryBoogie discussed yesterday....

The new world order, at least on the LES
Do you remember the Iglesia Pentecostal Arca De Salvacion (above) at the corner of Houston and Suffolk? Well, here's all that's left of it.
Wow, that seemed quick. (I'm told the church moved to a new location.) I haven't heard yet what's going in here. I'm sure something useful and new and different. As I mentioned Sunday, Vasmay Lounge has moved from the other side of Houston and Suffolk to Essex Street. More change is expected on the relatively quiet Suffolk Street. One resident told me they are waiting to be bought out by their landlord, who plans on selling the old tenement building. And what became of those Starbucks-to-Suffolk-and-Stanton rumors? (Based on what I read and what people told me, Starbucks was opening on every street corner in the LES. And is Starbucks even expanding these days?)
I thought about this as I crossed Houston onto Avenue B, where the name of this newish store on Avenue B between Houston and 2nd Street really hit me.
