Suki Japanese Kitchen hasn't been open lately on St. Mark's Place

Multiple EVG readers have noted a lack of activity of late at Suki Japanese Kitchen at 32 St. Mark's Place along the busy Second Avenue-Third Avenue corridor.

The gates have been down for at least the last three weeks.... plus someone removed the signage.

There isn't any mention of a permanent or temporary closure on the well-regarded restaurant's website or Instagram account. We reached out for more info on Suki's status.

Suki relocated here last summer.

Chef Kelly Cho opened Suki in July 2018 in a six-seat space at 86 E. Seventh St. and received favorable notices in the Times and via MichelinSuki moved around the corner to No. 111 in the summer of 2020... before closing to move to St. Mark's.

Cho also operates Hakurakuso on East 50th Street.

Suki Japanese Kitchen expands in East Village relocation

Suki Japanese Kitchen is on the move again in the East Village.

The well-regarded curry shop is opening an outpost at 32 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

Workers were spotted working on the space this week (thanks to Steven for the photos)...
The move here to this (slightly larger) space means that Suki chef Kelly Cho's spinoff at the address, MIN Sushi, which opened in late 2020, has apparently ended. (We reached out for more details.)

With this relocation, Suki's outpost at 111 First Ave. near Seventh Street has closed...

Yubu bringing Korean food and beverages to 7th Street

Signage is up over on Seventh Street just west of First Avenue for Yubu, which will serve Korean food and beverages from the sliver of a storefront at 86 E. Seventh St.
This spot has been a launching pad for businesses that grew and expanded into larger spaces elsewhere.

Abraço was here for 10 years before moving across the street in early 2017. Last summer, Suki, the Japanese curry shop, relocated to 111 First Ave. between Sixth Street and Seventh Street. (Suki also opened a sushi outpost on St. Mark's Place.)

In between these two, we had Cafe Che/Benny's Burritos & Empanadas, which, unfortunately, didn't catch on ...

2 years in, Suki relocates to larger space on 1st Avenue

Suki, the Japanese curry shop, is now open (as of yesterday) from noon to 10 p.m. for takeout and delivery in its larger space at 111 First Ave. between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.

It was a short move for the restaurant, which relocated from its six-seat spot around the corner at 86 E. Seventh St.

Chef Kelly Cho opened Suki in July 2018 and received favorable notices in the Times and via Michelin.

No. 111 was previously home to Maharlika, which closed in December after eight years.

Suki is moving to a larger space around the corner

[Photo from 2018 by Derek Berg]

Suki, the six-seat Japanese curry shop at 86 E. Seventh St. just west of First Avenue, is moving to a new, larger space around the corner at 111 First Ave.

Following renovations, chef Kelly Cho will serve her Japanese-style curries from the former Maharlika space between Sixth Street and Seventh Street...

Here's part of Suki's announcement on Instagram:

We are really excited to say that Suki will soon expand & still live in East Village! It is truly still unbelievable the amount of love we received in the 6 seater restaurant! We will still be serving the same high quality food as usual so do not worry!

P.S. We thank our loyal customers who wished for more seats.

Suki opened in July 2018 and received favorable notices in the Times and via Michelin.

Thanks to Steven for the photos!
