Lui's Thai food coming soon to East 4th Street

Matt Rosen passes along word that a new Thai restaurant called Lui's is opening on East Fourth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue... in the space that last housed Pinisi Cafe & Bakery. Don't know anything else about Lui's just at the moment.

New menu, management for Thailand Cafe on Second Avenue

A sign on the gate at Thailand Cafe, 95 Second Ave. near East Fifth Street, explains the recent closure... as you can see, they'll be back Thursday... with presumably a different menu. And owners.

Can't say that I've ever eaten here. In a Thai food rut.

Purple Ginger now open on East Sixth Street

Purple Ginger, a Thai and noodle restaurant, opened here on East Sixth Street just east of Avenue A on Sunday. They're not doing deliveries just yet (so, no to-go menus to browse...).

This space had previously been home to Sixth Street Kitchen, which never reopened after being destroyed by a fire in January 2011.

Meanwhile, let us know if you try this place ...

Cafetasia is now the Lantern; fate of 100-ounce beer tubes unknown

Several readers have pointed out that Cafetasia on Avenue A near Sixth Street is under new ownership, and now part of the Lantern family. (There's another Lantern on Second Avenue at 18th Street.) Still serving Thai food.

No word yet if the Lantern will serve 100-ounce beer tubes like Cafetasia...

As Eater reported, Cafetasia went before the CB3/SLA committee in November for a full-liquor license. CB3 denied their request.

So who has eaten at Ko-Z noodle shop on East Sixth Street?

Well, we missed this one...

Turns out that the tiny Thai eatery between Avenue A and Avenue B has been open for more than a month.... Has anyone tried it?

Coming soon: Another Thai restaurant for Third Avenue

Work continues at 99 Third Ave. near 13th St., site of the former Friend House. Coming soon: Ngam, a full‐service Thai restaurant.

CB3/SLA approved a beer-wine license here back in January... as I recall, Hgam's owners will use its backyard as an herb and vegetable garden. And not an outdoor bar.

On Second Avenue, La Da Nang is suddenly Zabb Elee

Rebecca Marx first pointed this out yesterday at Fork in the Road... The owners of Le Da Nang, which opened last March, have turned the space into Zabb Elee...

... the second outpost of their Northeastern Thai restaurant... (the other is in Jackson Heights). Hmm. And I rather liked Le Da Nang the few times that I either picked something up to go or had food delivered.

A krazy few days for the former Kurve!

Kurve, the favored spot for privileged teens to prowl, had a krazy few days... So for those keeping track of the komical thai eatery at Second Avenue at Fifth Street, here's a recap...

Tuesday!

Wednesday-Thursday!

Friday!

Sunday! The buffet is back! And Kurve is now known as Rhong Tiam East.

And there's now wi-fi and Butter Lane cupcakes...

A Bodhi Tree grows on Third Avenue

Our former little Taco Bell on Third Avenue near 11th Street is all grown up now, almost ready to become a Thai place called Bodhi Tree.

Previously on EV Grieve:
From tacos to Thai on Third Avenue

PS
One cannot mention the name Bodhi without paying tribute to the greatest Bodhi of them all, Patrick Sawyze in Point Break.

Among his wisdom:

-- "100% pure adrenaline!"
-- "Goddamn! You are one radical son of a bitch!"
-- "If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love."
-- "I know Johnny. I know you want me so bad it's like acid in your mouth. But, not this time."
-- "Life sure has a sick sense of humor, doesn't it?"
-- "Yo, Johnny! I see you in the next life!"
-- "Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true."
