The Donut Pub outpost on Astor Place opens TODAY

At long last the second location of The Donut Pub opens this morning at 6 at 740 Broadway and Astor Place.

This outpost was originally expected to open last fall (per the DP signage out front).

And no word yet if this location will be open 24/7 like the original.

That first Donut Pub has been on 14th Street and Seventh Avenue since December 1964. The no-frills, diner-like space once prompted New York magazine to write: "In a Krispy-Kreme and Dunkin' Donut world, it's comforting to know there are still places E.B. White might have recognized during his ambulations through the streets of New York."

The new Donut Pub on Broadway is now HIRING

Just checking in on the status of the Donut Pub outpost opening on Broadway at Astor Place... they are now in hiring mode...

Not sure about the experience necessary...

In its fall preview, New York magazine had a November open here. Given that staffing is just underway, that doesn't quite seem likely.

The original Donut Pub opened on 14th Street and Seventh Avenue in December 1964.

The Donut Pub opening an outpost on Astor Place

The Donut Pub, which Buzzy Geduld opened on 14th Street and Seventh Avenue in December 1964, will soon have a second location — 740 Broadway at Astor Place. (Across the street from The Famous Cozy Soup 'n' Burger.)

The coming soon sign shows a fall opening.

The no-frills space reminiscent of a diner has many fans — for both its doughnuts and ambiance. As New York magazine wrote: "In a Krispy-Kreme and Dunkin' Donut world, it's comforting to know there are still places E.B. White might have recognized during his ambulations through the streets of New York."

Will be interesting to see how the owners replicate the Chelsea space. And will this location have that same great Donut Pub neon as the original?
