Well, this just popped up in the real-estate listings...
Not much information at the moment...
I can only think if one 11,000-square foot mansion on East Third Street...but, nah... plus, it's not even a mansion yet...

Former Gateway School building still on the block
Last Oct. 23, the Real Deal reported that the former Gateway School building on Second Avenue between 14th Street and 15th Street had hit the market.
Cool! I'll take it!
Anyway, no price was set.
Said a Massey Knakal partner: "We're asking for offers. We want to see how the market responds to it."
So far, the market hasn't responded at all — one year later, I noticed that the building is still for sale. And no one has tagged the lion.
The 12,366-square-foot edifice at 236 Second Avenue at 15th Street has seven floors, including a basement, sub-basement and mezzanine. It has nine classrooms, a gym, multi-purpose room, art room, library, offices and a courtyard.

Like a Virgin Megastore going-out-of-business sale (groan)
As you may have heard, the Virgin Megastore is closing on Union Square. I was finally lured in Saturday like a sucker with the "up to 40 percent" off signs... Also, I wanted to make a bid on the Lady GaGa banner in the window. (Unfortunately, my offer of "You pay for the can of gas and I'll rip it down and set it on fire on 14th Street" wasn't accepted.)
Well, as for the rest of the store. The new CDs that are usually marked for sale with a $13.99 sticker over the $18.99 sticker...were all $18.99 again. And they were 25 percent off. Ditto for the DVDs. Most new DVDs were $24.99. So with the 25 percent off -- you're pretty much paying what you were paying before the store was going out of business. I'm sure there were bargains elsewhere. Or not. I didn't stick along long enough to dig. Oh, one thing I saw for 40% off? Stationery! Which was all sold out. And the Blondie pocketbooks were also 40% off.

You had me at "My name is Menachem"
Someone -- presumably Menachem himself? -- put copies of this photocopied note around apartment buildings in the East Village last night.
I'm sold!

Vasmay Lounge is moving
[Photo via Twerking Hard in the East Village]
This past Wednesday, I was yammering away about buildings for sale in the neighborhood that also housed bars. And why this was cause for concern. One of these locations was Vasmay Lounge on Houston at Suffolk. (Site of the former Meow Mix.) Well, Twerking Hard in the East Village reported today that Vasmay's has closed...and moved to the former Essex Ale House location on Essex and Houston. (He also reminds us of one of the former bars in the that Essex Ale House spot -- Filthy McNasty's. Have a few stories about that place...)
Anyway, will be curious to see what happens to the former Vasmay space at 269 E. Houston St.

Looking at some of those buildings that are for sale
In recent months, I've noticed several buildings for sale in the neighborhood...nothing unique about that, of course. Except! It's just that each of these signs are hanging on buildings that house bars. (Bars that I happen to like.) Maybe this doesn't mean a thing. The signs are for other buildings that are for sale. The bars all have long leases. It will all be business as usual. New landlords, no rent increases! You know, all is well! (I'm trying...)
Oh, and in the case of the "space available" along 14th Street in the (blurry, sorry) third photo, I don't even know if that includes the beloved Blarney Cove. Still, given some of the reports (via Jeremiah, Curbed and The Villager) about that ripe-for-development eastern stretch of 14th Street between Avenues A and C, I'm not very hopeful. About anything.
