New Italian restaurant Prosciutto coming to 9th Street

Coming-soon signage is up for an Italian restaurant called Prosciutto at 435 E. Ninth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue...
The owners will appear before CB3's SLA committee on May 11 to seek a beer-and-wine license. As of now, the applications aren't online just yet.

This space was previously the sando shop Evil Katsu, which closed in December after five-plus years here in December.

The coming-soon signage for Meama Café & Restaurant, located at 78 Second Ave. between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, is up now.

Meama will be a full-service restaurant serving Georgian cuisine (find a sample menu in their CB3 questionnaire from last month).

Nomad closed in this space in the fall of 2022 after 16 years in business.

This place on 1st Avenue is going to be Bananas

Photos by Lola Saénz

Some clever signage has arrived at 174 First Ave. ...
As you may have guessed, the coming-soon restaurant is called Bananas. (And no duct tape on the bananas? Must not be worth much!)

Here's more via a preview at The Infatuation
Shrimp wonton étouffee sounds promising. You can get some, once Bananas opens in the East Village. The minimalist Asian-American restaurant, from a few folks who worked at Shmoné and Blue Ribbon, will also be serving things like a miso caesar, alongside sake flights and shochu-based cocktails.
The space was previously home to Emilia by Nai.
