More scaffolding and a sidewalk bridge... today's lucky recipient is 50 Avenue A...next to the Key...

Scaffolding and sidewalk bridges coming and going along Avenue A

Because many people have pointed this out... on Tuesday, workers removed the scaffolding and sidewalk bridge from around the building on the SW corner of Avenue A and Seventh Street.

... and on the corner building at Second Street and Avenue A... where there are now floating tags on that south-facing wall where the scaffolding was ...

Workers had been doing roofing and façade-repair work for the past five months. 

The Petopia on the corner remains closed for emergency repairs (courtesy of the construction). 

While the sidewalk bridge is gone from the corner... workers have been extending it along Avenue A outside the city-owned First Houses between Second Street and Third Street.

Heavy snow causes scaffolding collapse on First Avenue

The scaffolding atop 175 First Ave. near East 11th Street came toppling down late this afternoon during whatever this weather is now. No word on any injuries. It wasn't clear if any workers were on the scene at the time.

According to the DOB, the city OK'd a permit for two new floors plus a penthouse atop the existing two-story building.

The complaint filed today states (in the all-cap DOB style):

NYPD REQUESTED A STRUCTURAL STABILITY INSPECTION DUE TO ASCAFFOLD COLLAPSING AT THE SECOND FLOOR DUE TO HEAVY SNOW BUILD UP

Scaffolding still going up at 330 Bowery

On Monday morning, we happened to be on Bowery and Bond when workers started erecting scaffolding at the historic 330 Bowery... late yesterday afternoon, they were still going at it... been awhile since we've seen such intricate scaffolding with so many walkways, ladders, etc. So much of scaffolding seems so homemade around here these days. Not this.







Workers will eventually be repairing portions of the exterior and stuff, per the DOB.

Scaffolding arrives at historic 330 Bowery

Workers arrived this morning to erect a sidewalk shed and scaffolding at 330 Bowery, the historic circa-1874 building that once housed the Bouwerie Lane Theater and various banks before that...



According to the DOB, workers will be painting the landmark cast-iron building here at Bond Street sea-foam green and removing all the ornate details.

KIDDING! Jeez.

Actually, according to the all-cap stylists at the DOB:

ESTERIOR [Ed note: Exterior?] REPAIRS CONSISTING OF REBUILDING PARAPET WALL & RESTORING EXISTING STAIRS AS PER PLANS FILED HEREWITH. NO CHANGE TO USE, OCCUPANCY OR EGRESS

In 2007, "self-storage king" Adam Gordon bought the building and made condos, including a penthouse that went for some $14 million.

A Building finally ready for balcony repairs

Thirteen months ago, workers erected a sidewalk shed outside the world-famous, pool-party palace on East 13th Street...

And yesterday! Workers started putting up the scaffolding...

There were a handful of complaints on file with the DOB:

FAILURE TO MAINTAIN BALCONIES THROUGH-OUT BUILDING

And!

FACADE - DEFECTIVE/CRACKING

According to a new DOB permit, workers will be doing "balcony repairs."

As The Real Deal reported in April 2010:

Beneath the two-year-old building's reputation for hosting raucous rooftop pool parties lies a reality worse than the most killer hangover — flooding, crumbling balconies, alleged mismanagement of the condo board's funds and two unresponsive developers who have left owners banging their heads against mold-ridden walls, claim several residents who forwarded dozens of documents detailing these issues to The Real Deal.

Why the wait? Perhaps to give the A Buildingers another summer of fun?

The other day, the Fresh Direct truck pulled in front of St. Brigid's between Seventh Street and Eighth Street to park...in doing so, the truck got a little too close to the scaffolding around the church...the truck scraped forward anyway (you can see the marks...) What a noise! To be honest, I was worried this might shake the scaffolding enough to cause a collapse. And it wouldn't be the first time there has been a scaffolding collapse here.

Scaffolding finally comes down at Third Avenue and 13th Street

This scaffolding was up for at least two years.





Last spring, Cafe Deville and Cosmic Cantina were named two of the worst outdoor tables at Eater. (Be sure to read comment No. 11.)
