Retail space at historic 330 Bowery is for rent

Over at 330 Bowery (aka 54 Bond St.), the main retail space is now for rent inside the historic circa-1874 building at Bond Street.

RKF has the listing... no word on the rent for the three levels and 2,300 square feet...

Last fall, a John Barrett luxury hair salon, which also sold vintage Rolex watches priced to $30,000, opened here at the former Bouwerie Lane Theater.

That didn't work out well for a variety of reasons. This location was supposed be the first of many John Barrett salons across the country, at least according to this piece I found earlier this year at WWD:

Barrett and Jim Hedges, his business partner and chief executive officer of John Barrett Holdings LLC, are out to reinvent the business model of the luxury salon — making it more inviting, more finely curated, more retail-driven — while laying the groundwork for a string of units across the U.S. and beyond.

The Bowery and Bond Street location ... opened in October, as Barrett’s first step onto the New York scene beyond his original base at Bergdorf Goodman. But it was beset by physical disruptions and unexpected delays like street construction outside the windows, 12 days without water and noise from a Con Ed generator, which made it difficult to recruit the high-level hairdressers they needed at the salon along with their clientele.

“It has been a slow start,” Hedges acknowledged. But six new stylists are starting this year and “we have every confidence,” he said.

In February, Barrett reportedly fired Hedges "in the midst of a crowd of 30 or 40 people at the Bergdorf Goodman salon."

Anyway, there isn't a shortage of available storefronts nearby, such as the former Environment Furniture space ... and PYT and SRO Pizza ... and Patricia Field ... and Tatyana Boutique.

A look at 330 Bowery, now free of its sidewalk bridge

[Last week]

Last week, workers removed the construction wrapping from 330 Bowery (aka 54 Bond St.), the historic circa-1874 building at Bond Street.

On Wednesday, it was time for the sidewalk bridge to go away after a two-and-a-half-year refurbishment...

A refurbished 330 Bowery comes into view

After two-and-a-half years, workers have removed the construction wrap from 330 Bowery (aka 54 Bond St.), the historic circa-1874 building at Bond Street.

Crews have been "rebuilding the parapet wall and restoring existing stairs," per the work permits, among other refinements.

The retail space (the last tenant, Rogan, closed in April 2013) will be the second NYC home to a John Barrett luxury hair salon. It is expected to open this fall.

The landmark cast-iron building once housed the Bouwerie Lane Theater and various banks (and famous residents upstairs, like Lauren Hutton and Pearl Bailey). You can read more history of the building here.

Retail space at historic 330 Bowery now on the market

Back in February, workers wrapped the historic cast-iron building at 330 Bowery (at Bond) for exterior repairs ... meanwhile, the 5-year-old tenant here, Rogan, closed up its boutique in April, as BoweryBoogie reported.

Now that prime retail space is on the market...

No pricing info at RKF for the 1,020-square-foot space. The new retailer will have plenty of new neighbors... Intermix just opened next door at the former Steve's on the Bowery...

On the southwest corner of Bowery and Bond, a new storefront is expected at the former WaMu branch... and the first East Coast Patagonia Surf Store is opening across the street at the former CBGB Gallery one of these days...

330 Bowery wrapped and ready

Seeing as I already did two posts about the construction of the scaffolding here on the Bowery at Bond... might as well finish the job. It took workers a week, but they have the historic cast-iron building here wrapped and ready for exterior repairs...

Scaffolding still going up at 330 Bowery

On Monday morning, we happened to be on Bowery and Bond when workers started erecting scaffolding at the historic 330 Bowery... late yesterday afternoon, they were still going at it... been awhile since we've seen such intricate scaffolding with so many walkways, ladders, etc. So much of scaffolding seems so homemade around here these days. Not this.

Workers will eventually be repairing portions of the exterior and stuff, per the DOB.

Scaffolding arrives at historic 330 Bowery

Workers arrived this morning to erect a sidewalk shed and scaffolding at 330 Bowery, the historic circa-1874 building that once housed the Bouwerie Lane Theater and various banks before that...

According to the DOB, workers will be painting the landmark cast-iron building here at Bond Street sea-foam green and removing all the ornate details.

KIDDING! Jeez.

Actually, according to the all-cap stylists at the DOB:

ESTERIOR [Ed note: Exterior?] REPAIRS CONSISTING OF REBUILDING PARAPET WALL & RESTORING EXISTING STAIRS AS PER PLANS FILED HEREWITH. NO CHANGE TO USE, OCCUPANCY OR EGRESS

In 2007, "self-storage king" Adam Gordon bought the building and made condos, including a penthouse that went for some $14 million.
