There's still a bus stuck at 14th Street and First Avenue

@ThePeterHa shot this yesterday. As of this morning, the bus is still stuck like this...

Riding in the bike lane? Bring your snow tires

Today in post-blizzard photos of the East Village

To be honest, this is more for the benefit of residents who are marooned elsewhere or vacationing somewhere warm (fuckers!) ... Um, several people who are out of town asked me what it's like out there today. Here is my report.

Getting to the curb/street remains challenging at certain corners...

...a police van got stuck here at Avenue A and Seventh Street... Some guy walked buy, and in a Nelson Muntz way, pointed and said, "Ha, ha!"

...people are having snow sex...

...and leaving their boots behind.

Christmas is over!(?)

Spotted yesterday afternoon on Avenue A and 13th Street — the first tree disposal of this holiday season... Last year, we spotted the first tossed tree on Dec. 24. BoweryBoogie spotted some tree trashing on Dec. 21.

Capturing the Pigeon Lady

A reader notes that someone has been laying down feed for the pigeons multiple times a day at the entrance to Tompkins Square Park at Ninth Street and Avenue A.... and the number of pigeons has been growing ...

So, yesterday, in the aftermath of the blizzard of the century, the reader finally caught the pigeon feeder in the act. She empties out huge bags of (what look like) bread crumbs, multiple times every day. Who is she? And why does she revel in unleashing the pigeon apocalypse?

So!

The harbinger in action...

Observing her evil handiwork before departing (from behind the light pole)...

...the aftermath....

Another brick in the wall at St. Brigid's

This past summer, workers removed the entire northern wall at St. Brigid's here on Avenue B and Eighth Street... From what we can tell walking by the under-extensive-renovation church of late...

...workers are in the process of putting in a new wall on the Eighth Street side of the church...

Year-end updates: The new Lower Eastside Girls Club

As I reported earlier, 2010 is winding down, or something... I'm just checking in on the progress of a few high-profile developments that we discussed this year... Today, here's a few (pre-blizzard) shots of the new Lower Eastside Girls Club building going up on Avenue D between Seventh Street and Eighth Street...

Here's the official news release with more details on what the HQ will house.
