Scenes from the final Show Brain concert of 2025 in Tompkins Square Park

Photos by Stacie Joy

Halloween afternoon brought the last Show Brain concert of the season to Tompkins Square Park, wrapping up another year of live music here. (There's a Show Brain show coming Saturday in Washington Square Park.)

A big thanks to Ozzie, the tireless promoter behind these events, for another season of community and music — all free...
The lineup featured Bec Lauder & the Noise, a band with East Village roots, which recently released their debut record...
We also enjoyed the energetic set from Brooklyn's TVOD...(their debut album came out in May)...
EVG faves Skorts were also on the bill ... and lead singer Alli Walls and bassist Emma Welch showed off their debut record that came out on Friday...
And headlining — punk-trash scenesters Balaclava ...
Thanks, too, to Chris Flash of The Shadow and all the other promoters who bring live music to Tompkins.

To 2026...

The bottle of Merlot costume, recently featured in our East Village Halloween — nighttime edition post, is now up for grabs outside 323 E. 10th St. between Avenue A and Avenue B... EVG reader Dianne Lake shares this photo, noting "if anyone is looking to get ready for next year."

Campos Community Garden hosts annual Día de los Muertos celebration this weekend

Campos Community Garden, at 644 E. 12th St. between Avenue B and C, will host its 14th annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration this weekend.

The community is invited to participate in a series of events honoring loved ones — both people and pets — through remembrance, art, and tradition.

The ofrenda (altar) is up today for viewing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Community Celebration takes place tomorrow (Sunday) from 2 to 5 p.m., featuring a ceremonial dance by Cetiliztl Nauhcampa at 2:30 p.m.

Guests are welcome to bring photos, flowers, food or mementos to add to the garden's sheltered ofrenda in the gazebo.

Sunday's festivities will include arts and crafts, Mexican hot chocolate and sweet bread.

As always, this is a free event made possible by the support of local businesses and the garden's members.

Another look at last night's collision on 4th Street and Avenue A

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

Here are more photos and details about yesterday's late-afternoon collision at Avenue A and Fourth Street.

According to witnesses, the cab was heading north on Avenue A when it was struck by an SUV traveling east on Fourth Street just past 5:30 p.m.

Witnesses said the SUV was speeding when it hit the cab, then jumped the curb, striking the liquor store, taking out a postal relay box and a pay-by-plate touch-screen meter before coming to a stop against a tree.
The driver of the SUV was awake at the scene and transported to the hospital. There wasn't any update on his condition.

The cab driver (below, talking with police) and his passenger escaped serious injury. The passenger suffered a minor leg injury, while the driver, who asked for prayers, was not hurt.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged and not drivable.

No pedestrians were injured — which, given the typically busy stretch of sidewalk near Key Food at that hour, is a miracle.

The force of the collision ripped the SUV's front bumper off.

A search of public records reveals that the owner has five recent moving violations, all of which occurred in Brooklyn. There are three for Failure to Display Meter Receipt, one for Blocking Crosswalk, and one for No Standing — Commercial Meter Zone.
