With move to East 7th Street, Oaxaca Taqueria closes Extra Place location

With the new location at 125 E. Seventh St., Oaxaca Taqueria has closed its Extra Place location, as this photo via EVG reader xomars shows.

So until Momofuko Ko opens in its new home, Extra Place is currently restaurant free…

And the East Seventh Street space between Avenue A and First Avenue was previously home to the Butter Lane cupcakes classroom.

Eggloo closes 1 year in on Avenue A

Eggloo has closed at 147 Avenue A between Ninth Street and 10th Street.

The shop, which specializes in Hong Kong egg waffles and ice cream sandwiches, opened on July 1, 2017.

Eggloo management confirmed the closure, and directed fans of their desserts to their original location down on Mulberry Street.

This is a crowded corridor for dessert choices ... nearby options on Avenue A and side streets include Mikey Likes It Ice Cream, Gelarto, Mahalo New York Bakery, Confectionery!, Superiority Burger (they have a variety of sorbet and gelato), Ray's Candy Store, Big Gay Ice Cream, Butter Lane Cupcakes, Becky's Bites ... and on First Avenue between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street — Stuffed Ice Cream and Davey's Ice Cream.

Taking another look at East Seventh Street

There's no shortage of turnover on the stretch of Seventh Street near Avenue A. Here's an update since the last time...

A small-plates place called Cure opened last week at was was briefly going to be the East Village Pie Lounge (which was briefly the Italian cafe Affettati...)

The space that briefly housed the Chocolate Bar is still for rent.

The Tiny Living store is closing...

The space next to Butter Lane Cupcakes is still for lease...

The former kiddie hair salon/boutique Locks 'n' Lads that closed in January is now an upscale clothing boutique called Red...

P.S.
During the renovation of Red, this fine-looking dummy was put out in the trash. Was curious if anyone took it...

P.S.S.

Two other storefronts — former boutiques — are available on the block...Including:

Just desserts for Seventh Street?

Yesterday, I mentioned that Butter Lane Cupcakes will be opening soon at 123 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue. Last night, I noticed the previously vacated (and seemingly short-lived) Italian cafe Affettati at 131 E. Seventh St. ...

...will be home to the forthcoming East Village Pie Lounge.

The sign on the door promises everything from Apple to Pecan to Banana Cream Coconut pie -- for $5.25 a slice. Now this stretch of Seventh Street already counts the Chocolate Bar at 127 as a tenant (since June).

[Deathly silence]

So that's the Chocolate Bar. And Pie Lounge. Can we expect, say, the Tapioca Tavern in the vacant store front at 125 E. Seventh St.?

Former tattoo shop will now house the Cupcake Market on East 7th Street

[EVG photo from January]

After eight years at 74 E. Seventh St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, North Star Tattoo closed at the end of 2015.

And, as this photo via EVG correspondent Steven shows, workers have erected the new sign today for the incoming business...

Cupcake Market.

We don't have any other info about the proprietors right this sec.

Anyway, apparently the cupcake trend lives on... and a block away from Butter Lane Cupcakes.

Signage alert: Crêpe Master on 7th Street

Signage recently arrived for Crêpe Master, which is expected to open soon (Google lists tomorrow) at 123 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.

This will be the second outpost for the Japanese Harajuku-style gluten-free crêpe shop that launched several years back on 116th Street in Harlem.

Per Manhattan Sideways: "Unlike French crêpes, the Japanese version is traditionally served in a cone — and a classic street food dish in populous cities throughout the country."

The crêpes take over for cupcakes here... Butter Lane decamped from the storefront for space at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, N.J., during the summer.
