Lone Star's East Village connection

You've probably seen those ads for the new Fox drama 'Lone Star'....

Despite positive reviews, the show's debut episode tanked in the ratings... And the show's creator, Kyle Killen, wrote a plea on his blog for people to watch tonight....

One of the show's stars, Eloise Mumford (the blonde), lived in the East Village for several years, until she moved to Texas to film this show. She's an Atlantic Theater Company alum. This is her first big role... the show's on tonight at 10.

King Gyro for First Avenue

Barfing friend ruins chance of getting beautiful Persian girl's number

From Craigslist, of course:

Beautiful Persian girl waiting for L (my friend got sick) - m4w - 29 (East Village)

Date: 2010-09-26, 11:26AM EDT

We started talking and kind of hit it off. Then we got on the subway car and my friend got sick. Obviously it was just strait up awkward / inappropriate to ask for you number. I remember your name, job etc... so we'll leave that as confirmation if you actually end up reading this and replying.

Scenes from an early fall Sunday morning

You always take pictures of cranes

As my blogging professor taught me in my Remedial Blogging Class... (You always take pictures of cranes.)

Anyway, here on Second Avenue near Fifth Street... there is a large crane on the scene making a beer delivery to Kabin....

Kidding! They're actually creating an Bike Lane Obstacle Course. Mayor Bloomberg read that city officials did this in Amersterdam too.

Oh, c'mon ... it's early...

Seems like old times: Superdive is open — for real

Can't quite tell from this above photo.... but a man slung his girlfriend over his shoulder and carried her into the bar... Woo!

Manhole cleanup continues on Seventh Street

Crews are still working after today's manhole "problem" on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue...

Free concert in Tompkins Square Park tomorrow afternoon

Featuring:

Wombat IN Combat, The Alienz, Dog That Bites Everyone and A-Truth.

Until then... here's Wombat IN Combat from May 30 in the park....

[Updated!] Exploding manholes on Avenue A and Seventh Street

[Updated 12:24] Whoa. Appears that this is much more serious than firefighters on the scene led me to believe. Gothamist is reporting that two buildings had to be evacuated. Per Gothamist: "The Fire Department is responding to multiple manhole fires on East 7th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. We hear that two buildings (with 18 civilians) were evacuated and Con Ed is also on the scene."

You can see one of the fires here via @benjaminbojko:

Earlier.

A little excitement here on Avenue A and Seventh Street in the last hour... depending on who you ask, the manhole (no snickering!) cover here either exploded into the air.... Or! A lot of steam starting pouring from it... In any event, a lot of firefighters and ConEd workers responded to the scene... It was all under control, and the officials on duty didn't think that it was any big deal...

...the situation also provided a little entertainment for Marlene....

St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery Block Party under way

We were a little early. No corn for breakfast for us.
