HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" is back in the neighborhood filming scenes for its upcoming season... and the crew returned to a favorite spot — the great John's of 12th Street ... making things all 1920s-ish...
The restaurant is closed tonight for filming... back with the red sauce tomorrow...

Let's end the day with a few more photos from the "Boardwalk Empire" shoot on East Fourth Street today... the lot adjacent to to the Cornelia Connelly Center was remade to be the "Carmine Street Garage."
Sonia Akhtar, who took the above photos, said on Facebook that the crew had been working on this set for about a week...
And here are shots of some cast members via Bobby Williams...
...and East Village photographer Gudrun Georges captured the spirit of the set in black and white...
Find more of her photos here.
At the end of the day, the Models Ts were returned to Ventnor Avenue...

Breaking: fake laundry hanging on actual tenements; plus, old cars on East 4th Street
And the props are arriving this afternoon for the "Boardwalk Empire" shoot here along East Fourth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B... EVG reader David sends along the latest from the block...
May need to do a little FX to blot out those ACs...

Boardwalk Empire's beachy looking set off East Fourth Street
Several readers have pointed out that "Boardwalk Empire" will be filming around parts of the neighborhood today...
Always an interesting production to watch ... with the old-timey cars and sets and mobsters ...
EVG reader David sent along these photos from this morning on East Fourth Street between Avenue A and B... where crews are creating some kind of beachy-looking set in the lot adjacent to to the Cornelia Connelly Center ...
David and I are agreement that this is for a scene in which Nucky starts betting on beach volleyball games.

Last July, the HBO series filmed in part at John's of 12th Street ...
[EVG reader Han Shan]
The folks at John's confirmed that "Boardwalk Empire" would again be filming there, though they weren't aware of all the details just yet ...
Meanwhile, we also saw the filming signs outside EVG favorite DeRobertis on First Avenue...
...a seemingly perfect location for the show set in the 1920s-1930s ...
We asked someone at DeRobertis about this... while she agreed that their cafe would be be a great fit for the show, "Boardwalk Empire" would not be filming there... Perhaps another time...
And a bonus photo... a hallway in the building above DeRobertis... via Dave on 7th, who points out that the walls and ceiling are all pressed tin...

Lucky Luciano, 'Boardwalk Empire,' dining at John's of 12th Street today
Earlier, we mentioned that crews for "Boardwalk Empire" would be filming in the East Village today, possibly bringing an old-timey feel to the neighborhood.
Well! Turns out they are filming at John's of 12th Street... already an old-timey-feeling restaurant. (And we mean that in a positive way!) Han Shan just sent us this photo of who we think is Lucky Luciano.

'Boardwalk Empire' will likely make the East Village look old-timey today
Crews for HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" have been filming around the Lower East Side lately... EV Grieve reader Han Shan notes the signs along 11th Street between Third Avenue and First Avenue... where crews will be filming today...
Keep an eye out for old-timey cars and, maybe!, Steve Buscemi in some rather warm-looking 1920s clothing...
