Fall Out Bar
As Gawker reported last night, Angels & Kings on 11th Street near Avenue A was shut down for serving minors & morons. Pete Wentz is one of the bar's owners.
Anyway, when the bar opened in May 2007, Joshua Stein filed the following report on Gawker.
When emo-troubadour Pete Wentz opened Angels and Kings, a bar in the East Village, our douche canary in our douche mineshaft keeled over and died. First of all, Pete Wentz is going to be there. As he tells Page Six: "Yeah, I'm just gonna be local and drink umbrella drinks." So this isn't your normal dive. According to one of his business partners, this is a dive where "anyone can go and have sex in the bathroom and not get in trouble." So it's located in international waters?

Do the tenants care if Buffalo Exchange has sprung a leak?
On 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. The leak started two weeks ago? How long has the sign been posted? Have the tenants, um, touched base with the BE people?

Village Green ready for sales action
Village Green, the new condo going up at 311 E. 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue, advertised in the Post's real-estate section yesterday. It aims to be the first LEED Gold certified building in the East Village. Prices at the former parking garage range from $730,000 to $1.9 million.
Meanwhile, here's some of the marketing copy on the 311 Web site that's now live:
Upon entering 311 E. 11: Village Green, you are greeted with a welcoming smile from the 24-hour doorman. From the ice white quartz floors to the embroidered accent walls, the lobby is the perfect fusion of modern elegance and 21st century technology.
The accompanying lounge by interior designer Andi Pepper is a serene go-to spot to meet new friends and greet old ones.
Here's one of the renderings of 311... there's a gym on the street level for the pervs to gawk...
And a word of caution once this place is open.... Watch out for the cars driving by at 125 mph! Hey, Vin Diesel!

Thanks for the memories
"The cleanup crew at Webster Hall was left with quite a mess on its hands after country crooner Keith Urban's performance last Wednesday. According to sources at the club, someone aboard a Verizon-sponsored Keith Urban tour bus emptied the vehicle's septic tank outside the East 11th Street club at 3 a.m., after the show. "There was about 150 square feet of gunk, a half an inch think, outside the main entrance," says one employee. "It was a literal [expletive] show." (Page Six)

Noted
Buffalo Exchange opened last week on 11th Street. I remarked at the time that the old Cinema Classics sign was still up. I wondered if the BE folks may keep it...
Uh, no.

Buffalo Exchange ready for action (as soon as the gates go up today that is)
Buffalo Exchange opens today on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...at the former spot of Rififi/Cinema Classics. How many used/vintage stores does this make now in a row on 11th Street? Five? Six?
Took these photos a few hours ago. Wonder if they plan on keeping the Cinema Classics sign?
Meanwhile! Sort of related, but not really! Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals" ... from 1983. Good NYC scenery. (For Alex!)

Warning to fans of the old Rififi space: Please cover your eyes
The transformation of the Rififi/Cinema Classics space (former home to comedy, music, burlesque and dance, etc.) on 11th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue continues. Soon this, uh, very pinkish facade will be home to the thrift/consignment shop Buffalo Exchange.

A mighty wind
Just in case you missed the piece in the Times on the wind farmers of East 11th Street from Aug. 4, the Post did their own version of it today.
Meanwhile, any comments on Bloomberg's windmill energy plan?

The Times revisits the wind farmers of East 11th Street
The Times had a piece yesterday on the "group of young architects who, in the 70s, took over a five-story tenement that didn’t rely on the city’s electrical grid. They lived at 519 East 11th Street, and they got their power from the wind."
