Signage alert: Instant Noodle Factory on 7th Street

Signage is up now for Instant Noodle Factory, opening next month at 130 E. Seventh St. just west of Avenue A...

This fast-casual DIY concept offers up instant noodles — more than 150 types. 

The first outpost opened this past summer in Long Island City... Eater's Robert Sietsema gave it a whirl (and liked it!): 

When you enter, you are advised to study the ramen matrix ... mainly from Japan, China, and Korea, though a few originate in Thailand, Singapore, and other locations. 

Yet, this is a factory and you are the worker responsible for preparing your own meal. I was entirely bewildered when I first walked in, wondering how to approach the place. But this bewilderment was delightful — because perplexed is not a bad way to feel at the start of a meal. My advice is to select one of the preset noodle combinations, eight in number, which include type of ramen; added objects like sausages, herbs, fish balls, and boiled eggs; and condiments. If you don't pick a preset combo, you could spend hours considering your million or so options.

No. 130's former tenant, Avant Garden, moved around the corner to Avenue A and Sixth Street in July.

130 E. 7th St. sells for more than $20 million

The 7-floor building on the southwest corner of Avenue A and Seventh Street has a new owner.

According to a news release, 130 E. Seventh St. (aka 109 Avenue A) sold to an undisclosed "overseas buyer" for $20.750 million.

The renovated building arrived on the market in September 2018 with an ask of $22.95 million.

As we noted back in August 2016, the building went through a luxury makeover, with residential rentals fetching up to $16,995 a month at that time. (Last August, the penthouse was rented for $20,000 per month, according to Streeteasy.)

The current retail tenants include Miss Lily's and Avenuea Pilates.

Public records show that the University of the Streets sold the building to Park Corner Development, LLC in September 2011 for $5 million.

From the EVG tip line comes this listing for 130 E. Seventh St., the 7-floor building on the southwest corner of Avenue A.

Marcus & Millichap is the broker, though the link is via Loopnet. Some details:

Curiously, the summary notes: "The other ground floor retail (7th Street side) is occupied by Avant Garden. They are on a lease that expires in 2088..." 2088? Helluva lease!

Anyway, the building's asking price: $22.95 million.

Throughout the summer a crew had been working on the second floor at 130 E. Seventh St. ... in the space above Miss Lily's.

All that was finally cleared up a few weeks ago... and over the weekend, for lease signs arrived in the second-floor windows offering Park View Office Suites ...



..the sign says from $1,500 (a square foot? Well, we shouldn't joke.)



We haven't spotted a listing for the offices anywhere. The number goes to an answering machine.

Avant Garden signage now up on East 7th Street

The sign has arrived at 130 E. Seventh St. … where Team Ravi DeRossi (Death & Co., Cienfuegos, Proletariat, etc.) is opening an upscale vegan restaurant here just west of Avenue A.

DeRossi told Eater more about the project last month:

DeRossi says that this is something he's been wanting to do for 10 or 20 years, but finding a good vegan chef has always been the "biggest obstacle." Now, however, he's found that chef in Andrew D'Ambrosi, who currently runs the kitchen at DeRossi's Carroll Gardens seafood restaurant, Bergen Hill.

The way he tells it, D'Ambrosi put a hen of the woods mushroom dish on the menu that DeRossi, who "always hated mushrooms," loved. That dish turned out to be vegan, and so from there DeRossi had the chef begin experimenting with other vegan dishes, offering them as specials at Bergen Hill. Two years later, they've pulled together a list of about 20 that will make up Avant Garden's vegan menu. Those include things like charred onion with chimichurri and seasoned breadcrumbs, and roasted carrots with orange, honey, pumpkin seeds and quinoa, as well as that hen of the woods dish.

In addition to Avant Garden, DeRossi is launching a nonprofit, BEAST (Benefits to End Animal Suffering Today), which will host regular fundraisers for animal rights organizations, per Eater.

No word on an official opening date just yet.

As we first reported on May 5, Avant Garden takes over the storefront from Gingersnap's Organic, who decamped to the West Village in January.

The vegan, gluten free and raw food specialists will be closing up their nearly 3-year-old home at 130 E. Seventh St. later this week ahead a move to the West Village.

Per an email that they sent:

We're taking Gingersnap's across the great island of Manhattan and are opening a WEST VILLAGE location! We're sad to see our East Village spot go, but with all the space we're gaining in the new spot, we'll be better able to serve ALL of our customers!

To keep you feeling your best, this location will have an expanded smoothie menu with special elixir shots, more options at the coffee bar, warm soups, a greater breakfast selection, and much more!

Gingersnap's fans can find the new storefront — described as more of a "juice-bar-meets-coffee-shop" — at 113 W. 10th St., between Sixth Avenue and Greenwich.

And East Village customers can still get delivery via Seamless.

Prior to Gingersnap's, the storefront just west of Avenue A was home to Mikey's Pet Shop ...

Last week, we posted photos of those new penthouses available above 7A at 130 E. Seventh St. The homes are quite nice, offering panoramic views of Tompkins Square Park, the Con Ed plant, the soon-to-be demolished 100 Avenue A... all for the princely sums of $16,995 and $14,995.

Turns out that you may not need to find 15-17 roommates to share the place with after all!

Unit #4 is also on the market... and the list price is $7,500.

Since fall 2011, the building that houses 7A on the corner of East Seventh Street and Avenue A has been undergoing renovations... including converting some existing commercial/studio space to residential use and reconstructing the existing penthouses.

Workers started removing the construction gear from the building on Aug. 21.

And now, two of the penthouse units up there hit the rental market yesterday.
