The East Village outpost of Chinatown favorite Dim Sum Go Go has closed

Top photo by Steven; 2nd photo by Stacie Joy

Dim Sum Go Go's stay in the East Village was short-lived.

A for-rent sign is now posted on the storefront at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street.

The EV space has been closed — initially temporarily — since early February...signage pointed to an "electrical issue."
In an Instagram message, a restaurant rep told us they closed "due to intense competition in the area, despite our relentless efforts."

They went on to offer a thank you: "We want to express our gratitude to the vibrant restaurants nearby ... We sincerely appreciate the support from our loyal customers and eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone to our Chinatown establishment."

Dim Sum Go Go fans in the East Village can order their food via the Chinatown branch on various delivery apps or from the restaurant's website.

The EV location just debuted this past September. And it took a while to get here: signage first arrived in July 2021, and between the pandemic and some bureaucratic issues, the opening kept getting pushed back.

This was the second outpost for the restaurant that made the Michelin Bib Gourmand list last year. The flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown opened in 2000.

Thanks to the EVG reader for the tip about the lease signage!

Dim Sum Go Go's East Village outpost set for a soft opening on Saturday

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

Dim Sum Go Go is set for a soft opening on Saturday here at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street.

Operating manager Jackson Lau and owner Ken Li said that they'll offer just a little more than half of the usual menu items during this soft opening period. (And it's an extensive menu.)
They will also feature two self-ordering stations... (you can also order from someone at the front counter)...
This second location has been in the works since July 2021, and between the pandemic and some bureaucratic issues, the opening had been pushed back.

As previously noted, this is the second outpost for the restaurant that made the Michelin Bib Gourmand list last year. The flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown opened in 2000.

Dim sum joint looking closer to being a go (go) on 1st Avenue

Dim Sum Go Go is looking closer to opening now at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street. (First reported in July 2021.)

The signage is lit up now... there are also hiring notices on the front window for part-time help...
The soft opening is expected SOON.

As previously noted, this will be the second outpost of the Michelin- and Zagat-rated restaurant... after the flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown that opened in 2000.

Signage arrived yesterday for the Michelin- and Zagat-rated Dim Sum Go Go at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street. (Thanks to Pinch for the photo!)

As we reported back in July 2021, this will be their second NYC location outside the flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown. We reached out about details on an opening date. (Update: In a message, Dim Sum said they hope within the next few months.)

Dim Sum Go Go makes it sign official on 1st Avenue

The coming soon signage is up for the Michelin- and Zagat-rated Dim Sum Go Go at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street. (Thanks to Steven for the photos!)
As we reported back in July, this will be their second NYC location outside the 22-year-old flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown.

The First Avenue address was previously Punto Rojo, the bakery-restaurant that served traditional Colombian food here until late 2019.

Chinatown mainstay Dim Sum Go Go opening an East Village outpost

Looks like Michelin- and Zagat-rated Dim Sum Go Go is opening an outpost at 221 First Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street.

According to the @TradedNY account, the popular Dim Sum Go Go signed a lease late last month for the 1,600-square-foot space. This will be their second NYC location outside the 21-year-old flagship space at 5 E. Broadway in Chinatown.

The First Avenue address was previously Punto Rojo, the reasonably priced bakery-restaurant that served traditional Colombian food here until late 2019.
