Openings: Salad Don at Essex Market

Lenin Costa (above) recently launched a healthy new quick-serve option inside the Essex Market.

Salad Don serves a variety of build-your-own salads and bowls. (Billed as "delicious healthy bowls with a Peruvian touch.") You can find the menu here. 

The best sellers to date are the salmon tahini bowl and the rotisserie chicken bowl.

I got the vegan Buddha bowl and the roasted squash soup, and they were both delicious, especially the soup. 

Costa now has three local businesses: the well-regarded Don Ceviche at 57 First Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street and the Don Ceviche stall at Essex Market.

Salad Don is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

After some friends-and-family meals, Don Ceviche debuts today at 57 First Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street. 

Owner Lenin Costas said that the Peruvian restaurant will be open daily for lunch (with lunch specials, see below) and dinner...

You can find the website and menu here. 

Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with an 11 p.m. close Friday and Saturday.

Don Ceviche also has an outpost at the Essex Market.

Last week we noted that the signage had arrived for the new outpost of Don Ceviche at 57 First Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street. 

Since then, the quick-serve Peruvian restaurant has added its sidewalk awning (grandfathered in for the businesses at the address). 

Meanwhile, owner Lenin Costas welcomed EVG contributor Stacie Joy inside for a sneak peek...

He says he hopes to open soon — waiting for paperwork ...  this outpost will offer rotisserie chicken, all the ceviches and beer and wine.  

 

Signage alert: Don Ceviche on 1st Avenue

Signage has arrived for the new outpost of Don Ceviche at 57 First Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street. 

The quick-serve restaurant currently offers authentic Peruvian ceviche at the Essex Market. (You can check out the menu, featuring some nice-looking rotisserie chicken, right here.)

As noted last July, they received administrative approval for a beer-wine license for the small space that will provide a handful of tables. 

Don Ceviche takes over the space from Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen, a 1990s throwback that didn't make it out of the pandemic. 

And a moment of silence for the Pudgie's-Nathan's-Arthur Treacher's action-packed combo that was here during a few glorious months in 2012.

Don Ceviche opening an outpost on 1st Avenue

Don Ceviche, which offers authentic Peruvian ceviche at the Essex Market, is looking to open an outpost at 57 First Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street. 

DC is on the July CB3 docket for a new liquor license. However, the applicants have already received administrative approval given the method of operation (restaurant wine license with hours from 11 a.m. to midnight) and limited capacity (7 tables and a 3-seat service bar). 

Don Ceviche takes over the space from Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen, a 1990s throwback that didn't make it out of the pandemic. 

And EVERYONE WILL REMEMBER the Pudgie's-Nathan's-Arthur Treacher's action-packed combo that was here during a few glorious months in 2012.
