Dry Dock pool Is ready for summer

Photos by Stacie Joy

City pools opened for the season this past Saturday, including the Tompkins Square Park mini pool, which we covered here.

If you're looking to cool off during the current heat wave, the neighborhood's two full-size outdoor pools — the Hamilton Fish Pool at Pitt Street and East Houston and the Dry Dock Pool at 10th Street and Avenue D — are now open daily.

Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a break for pool cleaning from 3 to 4 p.m. During the current stretch of extreme heat, however, the city's Olympic- and intermediate-sized outdoor pools — including Hamilton Fish and Dry Dock — will remain open until 8:30 p.m.

Earlier this week, we stopped by Dry Dock for a (non-swimming) visit...

Tuesday's parting shot

Here's a look at the entrance to the Dry Dock Pool today on 10th Street near Avenue D.

The city's outdoor pool season officially begins on Saturday, June 27, when the Dry Dock Pool and others open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Labor Day (with a cleaning break from 3-4 p.m.).

Given the forecast calling for temperatures in the 90s over the next few days, some residents might wish the opening day were arriving much sooner...

City pools open today

Photo Sunday from outside Dry Dock Pool on 10th Street

Dozens of outdoor city pools reopen for the season TODAY ... locally, this means the Hamilton Fish Pool on Pitt and East Houston and the Dry Dock Pool on 10th Street and Avenue D.

The Tompkins Square Park mini pool — yes, Tompkins has a mini pool — is closed for the second season due to the renovations to the field house. (As far as we know, the pool is NOT getting a makeover — just the field house.)

Outdoor hours are from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Find more info about city pools at this link

The City published a solid pool primer here, including a section on swim lessons.
