Signs of life at East Village Social

Updated 12/30: EVS is back open, as Eden reports!

We noted the other day that East Village Social (EVS) has not been open since early November. A reader notes the signs of life here this evening...
The bar-restaurant is NOT open at the moment. But! Per the reader: "That's the beauty of it. It's not open. But they're telling us that they're alive. It's a signal from…somewhere."

In the comments, another reader commented that there is a gas issue in the building at 126 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue that may be to blame for this temp closure.

The EVS Instagram account posted a video on Christmas Eve featuring EVS and the Saint Mark's Saints doing a covering "Fairytale of New York" from inside the space... with a see you in 2022 message.

East Village Social has not been open in awhile

East Village Social remained dark for another weekend here at 126 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue.

By most estimates, the bar-restaurant has been closed since early November... with no notice of a temporary or permanent closure on the EVS website or social media properties.

Multiple EVG readers have inquired about the bar's status in recent weeks. Two readers who frequent EVS have said the bar is closed for renovations and that management hasn't made that fact too well known.

EVS opened in June 2012

East Village Social is now open on St. Mark's Place

We've been meaning to stop by East Village Social, the new bar-saloon that opened last week at 126 St. Mark's Place near Avenue A. (In the space previously occupied by Lychee and Why Curry?)

Anyway, looks like a good, low-key neighborhood bar.

We tracked down proprietor Dee Dee Patton on Facebook. She has been bartending in the City for 12 years now, the last four split between Niagara and the Bowery Electric. This is her first place.

"I really want East Village Social to be a locals spot that I want to hang out in," she said.

There are 10 beers on tap as well as seasonal sangrias. They also serve "comfort food with a southern spin," such as pulled pork on a biscuit with applesauce.

And they have a cool ceiling.
