About the Mask-Querade event on 7th Street Halloween afternoon
It's happening on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 2-4 p.m. on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.
A few details via the EVG inbox...
Children accompanied by a parent or guardian are invited to trick or treat safely and socially distanced, with masks being required. Adults will be able to sit in designated viewing stations to watch children with complimentary mulled wine and spiced cider.
Costumes are welcome, but not required. Masks and social distancing protocols will be enforced by volunteer community members as well as staggered entrance and exit times for participants.
We are looking for volunteers to hand out candy. If anyone is interested, then please send us an email at Speakup@OverthrowHospitality.com.
DeRossi owns several restaurants on that block, including Avant Garden and Ladybird.

Halloween at Economy Candy
Hard to believe that Halloween is less than three weeks away ... and it's traditionally a busy season for LES/NYC institution Economy Candy, which opened in 1937.
Skye and Mitchell Cohen, the third generation of husband-wife owners of Economy Candy, told me that they've "done a fraction of the business" they would normally do had they been operating as normal over these last six-plus months.
"October is typically our busiest month of the year, with Halloween being our busiest day, but with trick or treating in hot water this year our forecast isn’t ideal," Skye says.
Back in March, when the PAUSE went into effect, they launched the CandyCare Pack.
"We were overwhelmed by the 'pay it forward' nature of orders that came in," Skye says. "We started recognizing names as we were printing out shipping labels and thought something had gone wrong. While looking into it we realized we were recognizing names because people who had received CandyCare Packs were ordering and sending CandyCare Packs to their friends and family and so forth ... in lieu of regular social visits, which were made impossible by social distancing measures."
So this fall, they've introduced a variety of Halloween CandyCare Packs, which are currently available on their website for curbside pick up or to ship nationwide.
Economy Candy is at 108 Rivington St. between Essex and Ludlow. While the shop is closed for in-person shopping, they are open for curbside service. Find their website here for more details.

Good news if you're done with summer
EVG Fall Holiday Decoration Correspondent Goggla spotted Halloween items out at the Kmart on Astor Place... not to be outdone, the Rite Aid on First Avenue at Fifth Street trotted out the Thanksgiving decor...
Look for the Christmas trees by Labor Day.

Costume dramas! Halloween along Avenue B
As you may have noticed, Halloween was yesterday. As in previous years, EVG contributor Stacie Joy was stationed on Avenue B (Ben's Deli was a good spot) to check out the costumes.
Movie characters were, as always, a popular choice, from new films like "Joker" and "Midsommar" to standbys such as Jason Voorhees ("Friday the 13th" parts 1 through 678), Michael Myers ("Halloween") and Billy Loomis ("Scream") ... we even spotted one homage to "Schitt's Creek" ...
The transplant was a success? A doctor recommend Halloween procedure at Exit9
Halloween evening also included a return performance of the Exit9 Gift Emporium's window theater, in which passersby were treated to "an insane doctor’s gruesome medical malpractice" ... Stacie Joy took in the performance...

The devil in the details: 'Satanic Panic' at the Anthology Film Archives

With so many treating Halloween as nothing more meaningful than an excuse to party till dawn in a half-assed superhero costume, it’s safe to say the holiday has drifted far from its historical roots.
Nevertheless, by virtue of its relationship to various traditions honoring the dead – as well as to ancient festivals marking the onset of the “darker half” of the year, a transitional moment when the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead were thought to become porous – Halloween also conjures up images of the underworld, and by association, notions of Satan, witchcraft, and other dark forces.
Films include Roger Corman's "The Masque of Red Death," Mario Bava's "Black Sunday" and George Miller's "The Witches of Eastwick." The series runs tonight through Nov. 8 at the Anthology on Second Avenue and Second Street. Find more details at this link.

Doctor's orders: Halloween night at Exit9 on Avenue A
The folks at the Exit9 Gift Emporium at 51 Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street are once again hosting a Halloween night Window Theater.

THE DOCTOR IS IN…SANE!
Gore-hungry East Village tricksters (and their parents) will bear witness to an insane doctor’s gruesome medical malpractice. On Oct. 31, the window of Exit9 Gift Emporium will be converted into an operating amphitheater as the demented doctor performs live surgery before your very eyes.
The doctor will start seeing patients at 7 p.m. on Halloween. Revisit the scene from 2015 right here.
