Honest Chops Butchery has left 9th Street

Honest Chops, billed as "the first organic and humane halal butcher shop in New York City," has moved out of its basement location at 319 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

According to a tipster, the 10-year lease was up (the shop opened in March 2014) ... and they are looking for a new storefront. (H/T MP!) They will be reopening, though they don't have space just yet. People can email them to keep updated. 

Workers yesterday were moving out some of the shop's fixtures ...

Burgers By Honest Chops closed on MacDougal Street in May 2022. Ownership said in a Facebook post "that prices were going up substantially" via their suppliers, and they didn't want to pass on the increase to patrons.

Honest Chops, billed as "the first all-natural halal meat store in Manhattan," has its soft opening tomorrow at 319 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

There will be a larger launch later… and eventually the shop will begin delivery service around NYC and parts of New Jersey. But for now on Friday, the store will be open for you to check out… and sample some of their seasoned meats.

Store hours:
Friday: 2PM - 8PM
Mon to Thurs: 10AM - 8PM
Sat & Sun: 10AM - 8PM

There's a new business opening as early as today in the subterranean retail space at 319 E. Ninth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue. (The space was previously home to Little King Jewelry.)

We have never opened a meat shop before nor do we claim to be experts. But we were frustrated by the lack of affordable and accessible halal meat options in the city. We felt it was time that someone worked towards a better alternative.

Welcome to HONEST CHOPS. When you buy our meat, you have our honest-to-God guarantee that it is hand-slaughtered, all-natural, free-roaming, vegetarian or grass-fed.

We will be opening doors to our store and website very soon.
