Nai Tapas Bar set to open in new 2nd Avenue home

The all-new Nai Tapas Bar at 84 Second Ave. is expected to open this evening at 5.

The outpost at 85 Second Ave. (above and below) closed down at the start of the New Year here on the SW corner at Fifth Street...
... ahead of a move across the street to 84 Second Ave. between Fourth Street and Fifth Street (the photo below is from several weeks ago) ...
... and as seen Friday evening...
Nai Tapas Bar first opened on First Avenue in 2010 ... relocating to Second Avenue in 2018.

And Nai is the first retail tenant at No. 84 in decades. In recent years, the building changed hands several times, undergoing a gut renovation and extension. Our previous post has more background about this once-mysterious address.

Nai Tapas Bar now open in new East Village location

Nai Tapas Bar's move from First Avenue to Second Avenue is now complete... the restaurant opened last Thursday at 85 Second Ave. (at Fifth Street).

The new two-level Nai has more light and space ... their Instagram account provides some interior views...

The flamenco shows live on here as well, with two performances every Thursday and Saturday night. Visit the Nai website for details.

Nai moved from their subterranean home of eight years at 174 First Ave. between 10th Street and 11th Street back in the summer.

The previous tenant at 85 Second Ave., Bareburger, relocated to Orchard Street in the spring.

Nai Tapas Bar closes on 1st Avenue ahead of move to 2nd Avenue

As we first reported back on June 18, Nai Tapas Bar was moving this summer from its spot of eight years at 174 First Ave. between 10th Street and 11th Street to 85 Second Ave.

Nai closed after service on July 29 (H/T B+B). Signage for the previous occupant, Xunta, which decamped to Williamsburg in 2009, was revealed in the move out.

A letter to patrons on the Nai website points to a September reopening on Second Avenue...

The space on the southwest corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street was previously home to Bareburger, which left for lower rents on Orchard Street in the spring.

Nai Tapas Bar has announced its plans to move this summer from its spot of eight years at 174 First Ave. between 10th Street and 11th Street...

... to 85 Second Ave. at Fifth Street, the former home of Bareburger.

The owners of Nai Tapas Bar will appear before CB3's SLA committee tonight for a new liquor license at Second Avenue. (You can find their questionnaire online here.)

Their proposed hours are 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; until midnight on Friday-Saturday. The Sunday hours are listed as 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The configuration shows 35 tables seating 111 people. (There's also a five-seat bar.)

There isn't any mention on the questionnaire if Nai will continue on with their live flamenco shows, which happen twice a night on Thursdays and Saturdays. As one block association leader said, "The show is amplified, and in its current form could be disruptive if performed on the second floor of 85 Second Ave." According to the Nai Tapas Bar questionnaire on the CB3 website, "noise will be carefully monitored." (This comment is not specifically referencing the flamenco shows — rather the overall ambiance.)

The CB3-SLA meeting is tonight at 6:30 in the Public Hotel, 17th Floor, Sophia Room, 215 Chrystie St. between Houston and Stanton.
