Sarge's Deli celebrates its 50th anniversary today on 3rd Avenue
Just wanted to mention a favorite spot not too far away… Sarge's Deli on Third Avenue between East 36th Street and East 37th Street… the deli is celebrating its 50th anniversary with some all-day specials.
Sarge's reopened in March after a devastating fire put them out of business for 15 months. Amazingly, despite the renovations, the place retains its old deli charm.

Sarge's Deli is back in action on Third Avenue

Given the number of old-time NYC restaurants going down… we're pleased to see EVG favorite Sarge's Deli reopen yesterday after a devastating fire wiped them out of business in November 2012.
Per Fork in the Road:
This 50-year-old neighborhood institution has less name recognition than Katz's and Second Avenue Deli, but insiders know the pastrami here is just as moist — and the wait times are half as long.
Eater's Nick Solares paid a visit yesterday… fourth-generation owner Andrew Wengrover promised that things were the same (however maybe shinier)…
Despite the fire, they were apparently able to keep some of their Wall of Fame intact (Larry Storch!)

A quick look at Sarge's, hopefully reopening soon
Happened to be walking by EVG favorite Sarge's on Third Avenue the other day... the 48-year-old deli between 36th and 37th sustained extensive damage following a three-alarm fire last November.
The good news is that owner Andrew Wengrover recently told Eater that he was hoping to be open by the middle of this month... or as late as the first week of October. Per Wengrover: the reopened Sarge's will be the same as it always was. Yes please.
