Flower space for rent outside Sunny & Annie's

Photos by Stacie Joy

The flower vendor that arrived at Sunny & Annie's on the NW corner of Avenue B and Sixth Street in November has closed...

... and the space is now available for someone else who may want to sell flowers here...
No word about the rent. You can ask when picking up a P.H.O. Real!

Masks now required to enter Sunny & Annie's

Sunny & Annie's, one of the last 24/7 delis remaining open, is now asking that customers wear a mask to enter their corner space on Sixth Street and Avenue B...

Danny & Louise, who shared these photos, did see staff turn away someone for not having a mask on when entering the deli.

On April 2, Mayor de Blasio urged New Yorkers to wear face coverings, such as cloth masks or bandanas, when going out in public to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Updated:

Today, Gov. Cuomo announced that he will issue an executive order requiring all New Yorkers to wear masks or mouth and nose coverings when they are in public.

Sunny & Annie's still holding it down on the corner of 6th and B

While some delis have decided to shut down (here and here, for example), Avenue B favorites Sunny & Annie's remains up and running on the corner at Sixth Street.

Over the weekend, they posted to Instagram ... thanking customers and reminding people about practicing safe social distancing ... (you can call 212-677-3131 to have a sandwich or two delivered)...

Waiting on the manhole

As of about 8:30, Avenue B is closed between Fifth Street and Seventh Street ... ConEd and the FDNY are on the scene outside Sunny & Annie's... there's a smoking manhole and an unconfirmed report that this was caused by lightning...

Sunny & Annie's is temporarily closed, breakfast ruined.

Updated 1 p.m.

As you can see the Avenue is back open to traffic... and Sunny & Annie's is back open.

Multiple residents who live nearby say this was a lightning strike...

543 1/2 E. 6th St. is for sale

[EVG photo]

The corner buildings on Avenue B and East Sixth Street — aka home of Sunny & Annie's — is warmly being marketed as an "East Village Performing Investment."

Let's check out the listing, which arrived last week, via Halstead:

543.5 East 6th Street consists of two contiguous and inter-connected buildings at the corner of Avenue B and East 6th Street. The buildings comprise five residential apartments and two ground floor commercial units, all free market and all currently leased. The free market residential units are on annual leases and the commercial leases expire on 2020 and 2016.

Additionally, there are approximately 800 square feet of available air rights. Luxury triplex unit with deck and private roof, currently rented at $9,000.00/ month, would make an excellent owner occupied unit. Triplex and one bedroom units could be upgraded to increase rent roll. Roof replaced 1 year ago. New HVAC units in triplex. Triplex decks replaced one year ago. Great opportunity to own a performing asset, or as a live in opportunity with income.

The price: $8.95 million.

Here's a look at that triplex above Sunny & Annie's...

Interestingly enough, we wrote about these buildings six years ago to the date.

[In case you don't believe me]

At the time, the asking price was $4.8 million. (According to public record, the building last changed hands for $4.2 million in 2006 to a revocable trust.)

Meanwhile, Sunny & Annie's and the Woodhouse Spa (that name!) are the two retail tenants. It's not clear from the listing whose lease expires in 2016 ... and which one is up in 2020, per the listing.

Sad-looking tree still looks sad on East Sixth Street

24 hours after spotting one lone tree for sale outside Sunny and Annie's on Avenue B and Sixth Street... the poor thing remains...

I would buy it. Except that I already have a tree. And my tree never gets along with other trees.

And don't you think the tree is shaped like the Grinch's head?

Aww, it's OK little fella. Someone will take you home... Sixth Street and Avenue B last night.
