Lucy's will be back open on March 11

On Avenue A, Lucy is on a break... and I didn't realize this until I showed up for a drink...

Posts that I never got around to posting: The Holiday is now open seven days a week

Oops! Meant to post this about 6-7 weeks ago! In any event, good news. Cheesy promotions aside (and we understand you need to make some money), we're pleased that the Holiday is back on a seven-day-a-week schedule. After Stefan's death earlier this year, there were questions his family would even keep the bar going... Soon enough, the Holiday was open just on the weekends. Then, in April the bar expanded its hours to Wednesdays and Thursdays. So here's to a great place to drink Mondays and Tuesdays now... and any other day, really.

Where you won't be drinking tomorrow: Lucy's

Because she's on holiday...

Good news: The Blarney Stone has reopened

Yesterday, in fact, after being closed for nearly three weeks...

...with a few modifications...

On Fulton Street in the Financial District.

The Blarney Stone is closed (again)

Uh-oh. Thanks to a tipster who points out that FiDi fave the Blarney Stone on Fulton Street has been closed now for five days. As you may recall, the bar was mysteriously closed for seven days or so this past February.

Joe's has reopened

A very good sign...Joe's was closed due to what one commenter described as an "insurance snafu." It was shuttered for at least one week...the above photo was taken Saturday...Anyone know when it reopened? I didn't go by Thursday or Friday nights.

"Joe's is only closed temporarily"

As we posted yesterday, the great Joe's Bar on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B has been closed the last few days...

However! Jeremiah received the following response about Joe's on his Facebook fan page:

i can deliver GOOD news to you from a very reliable inside source -- Joe's is only closed temporarily -- some little insurance snafu but they will return in full force - don't know when -- stayed tuned. (we can't lose more places, i'm starting not to recognize my own hometown anymore). ugh.

Very bad things: Joe's Bar is closed, at least temporarily

Swung by Joe's last night on Sixth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B... seemed like a good bet to escape people watching sporting events on TV...and it was closed...no note to patrons or anything either.

Apparently the bar has been closed for several days now. We don't know why for sure. However, a neighbor vaguely said something about a paperwork glitch with the state. Hmm.

And this is what the bar should have looked like last night...

Let's hope this isn't the beginning of a Joe's curse.

At Lucy's: "We miss you!"

Well, Lucy's is on holiday until Sept. 10.

Unfortunately, not everyone knew. There are several notes on Lucy's door for people to meet elsewhere. Like, Amanda's birthday party was moved to the Niagara.

And there are people who just miss Lucy.

Like us. So. A few randomy random photos from our Lucy's photo archives from this past year...

Popeye returns in September

Come to think of it, we haven't seen Popeye lately. More our fault. Haven't been by the Blarney Cove as much of late during the day. Guess he finally got that balky back fixed.

He'll be back behind the bar in September.

Lucy is gone until Sept. 10....now this.

What will we do until Sept. 10?

Lucy told us that she'd be leaving for Poland for several weeks. Still. Anyway, here are a few shots -- drinking, playing with a camera -- to hold us over until Sept. 10. Avenue A between Ninth and 10th Street.

Good news for the Blarney Cove?

I tend to worry about things, such as seeing large parcels of real estate on the market next to the beloved Blarney Cove. This area on 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B is ripe for development. So when when the "space available" signs went up last summer...Hello Marc Jacobs! Hello huge Chase branch!

But back to reality, here we go...the new occupant along this stretch...with the BC safe and sound for now.

Let the sunshine in....

Many thanks to our friend Cat Sitter for the tip!

Where you can still get a beer, some bikini action and maybe a colonic in this town

Damn...I missed this. Just read over at Esquared's that Deno's Bikini Bar on Seventh Avenue (at 10th Street) has closed.

Need to get back to their main spot on Eighth Avenue (at 30th Street)... a fine place...Maybe throw back a few beers and zip upstairs for a colonic. (Uh, clarification — there's a Colon Hydrotherapy spa on the second floor of this building...per the sign above "bikini bar"...)

Easter Sunday at the Blarney Cove

Who keeps playing the Joe Cocker on the jukebox? Like Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" is any better. Jimmy figures you can live to 100 by drinking and having sex. Maria says she doesn't drink or have sex anymore. But she has a short beer after her shift. Jimmy figures he has another 10 years. Or at least two years, he admits. The Yankees lose. Who's this closer for Kansas City anyway? He's quite good. Now it's John Denver and "Take Me Home, Country Roads" -- first the live version, then the studio recording. Can you skip the jukebox, or is that rude? Is the person in the green hoodie a man or a woman? (Doesn't anyone notice the sideburns?) Ah, Leonard Cohen. Squiggy is asking who won the NCAA men's basketball tournament. "North Carolina." Angel Cabrera wins the Masters! Who is he again? He's from Argentina, not Nicaragua. By the way, does anyone know that the heat is on in here?

Appreciating a great bar on a day where it's not safe to go into any bars

Mars Bar, of course. First Street at Second Avenue. Not that you'll see anyone here today in green plastic hats and what not, but you never know what pub crawlers might be around on March 17...

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick's Day. May you not have to spend it near anyone who has been drinking Irish Truck Bombs. (Yeah, it's a pitcher instead of a pint.)
