It's milling time

Here's a look at Seventh Street at Avenue A after the late-night milling this week

We can confirm that First Avenue between 12th Street and 15th Street has been milled (and it makes that stretch even nicer!

The length of Seventh Street between Avenue D and Cooper Square was supposed to be fully milled by now. (If anyone can confirm, aside from Seventh between A and First. The EVG Milling & Paving Team is at a softball tournament upstate.)

Third Street from Avenue D to the Bowery is/was set to be milled last night and tonight.

Anyway, a few people asked. Yes, the Citi Bike docking stations will return to Seventh and A, Seventh and B, Seventh and C, etc. And: No, the city does NOT remove curbside-dining structures for the milling and paving.

And no word yet when the paving will commence.

Paving the way on Avenue A

[Reader photo from last night]

After the milling action last week, crews returned last night to put down the new roadway on Avenue A...

Workers made it down to Sixth Street...

The new flyers taped up over the old flyers show that work will continue this evening...

And a look at how the freshly paved St. Mark's Place blends in with the freshly paved Avenue A...

Today's Avenue A milling report

Workers were expected to mill Avenue A up to 13th Street last evening and overnight ... apparently the rain delayed the start of the milling festivities... which might explain why they just got to Sixth Street ...

Perhaps there will be more milling tonight. Also! Signs on St. Mark's Place note that milling will take place from Third Avenue to Avenue A tonight.

Get ready for some roadway milling tonight

Signs are up along Avenue A, from Second Street to 13th Street, announcing roadway milling commencing this evening at 6 ... and continuing through to 6 a.m.

Work will also take place on St. Mark's Place, from Third Avenue to Avenue A...

...and 12th Street from Fourth Avenue to First Avenue, per the city's Milling & Resurfacing Schedule (PDF here).

So all these areas are a tow-away zone.

Meanwhile, hopefully none of this milling business will interfere with the two film shoots scheduled in roughly the same area today and tomorrow...

A-Paving We Go!

And in other Christmas miracles noteworthy items... Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C now has a new surface... this after Con Ed had been replacing gas mains on the block the past three months.

Side streets, milled and paved

Been meaning to note this. On Friday night, workers paved parts of Seventh Street between First Avenue and Avenue B, as the above photo by Dave on 7th shows.

With this, I believe, all the freshly milled side street have their new asphalt...

Except for Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, where Con Ed has been replacing gas mains...

...and an aerial view showing the work, which is expected to be completed some time this week, per a worker...

And from earlier this month... a photo showing the eerily beautiful sight of a freshly milled East Fifth Street between Second Avenue and Cooper Square....

There will be milling starting tonight

You may have seen the recent arrival of these flyers from the city... noting milling taking place on a handful of Manhattan streets, including a good number in the East Village.

According to city documents (the Milling and Resurfacing Schedule for Sept. 4-10), work will commence tonight on Third Street between the Bowery and Avenue D, and Fourth Street between Second Avenue and Avenue D. Several other streets, including Seventh between Cooper Square and Avenue D, are on the schedule for Wednesday and Thursday.

The signs note that the work will take place between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. So thankfully you won't even notice most of the work because you will be sound asleep!

Meanwhile, in Great Moments in Project Overlaps, Dave on 7th notes that Con Ed has been replacing gas mains on Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C...

Per Dave: "Apparently the city is going to repave the street before Con Ed is done digging it up."

The remaining unpaved portion of Cooper Square now with asphalt

Much to the delight of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders and exhaust systems, that last stretch of Cooper Square between Fifth Street and Fourth Street has its new asphalt ... (as well as Fourth Street between Broadway and Second Avenue)...

The crew left the equipment out in case you see any spots they missed. (The keys are hidden in a compartment in the smokebox.)

Maybe they should keep milling and paving... the rest of the Bowery could used a new roadway...

According to the Astor Place-Cooper Square Reconstruction Newsletter (PDF), workers will be putting the pavement markings on the new asphalt next week.

[Updated] Milling about East Second Street tonight

In case your driving or parking plans were to take you to East Second Street between Avenue A and First Avenue tonight...

The street is scheduled for roadway milling, as the plentiful signage along the block shows... (some signs pointed to milling action on Friday evening, but I didn't see any)...

Despite all the signs, someone should tell the pigeons about the milling and temporary displacement of the buffet...

No signs just yet about when the resurfacing will take place.

-----

And unrelated ... but while we are on this block... The TLC Tea House opened back on March 18...

They serve coffee, tea, sandwiches ... catering, in particular, to the various drivers (cabs, car services) who take a break on this block...

Updated 3/29

EVG reader Gacjon shared photos of the milling action last evening...

Get ready for some overnight milling of the streets

The city has posted these advisory notices around... noting work starting "on/about" today through Friday (from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.).

Per the flyers: "Work scheduled on this project includes the milling of streets in preparation for resurfacing by the NYC Department of Transportation Roadway Repair & Maintenance (RRM) division." (Those early RRM records were pretty good.)

Looks like Avenue C will be taking the brunt of this project, from East Houston to East 20th... and First Avenue just between East 14th Street and East 15th Street. Keep an eye out for the No Parking notices along Avenue C too.

Milling and paving, milling and paving make for some sleepy residents

[East 6th Street last night via @highmountain]

As you likely heard in the middle of the night, crews have been taking to the East Village side streets in an ongoing milling-paving project.

EVill Joe found this schedule (PDF) on the DOT site ...

And how has this overnight work been going so far?

Per one EVG reader: "I was kept up allllllll night ... It was an apocalyptic noise level from 1 am to 5 am or so. I tried calling 311 ... but they couldn't give me much info."

And be sure to heed those No Parking signs...
