A Hollywood print shop for 7th Street

An EVG reader noted the arrival today of signage for a new business coming to Seventh Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue — a print shop... don't know anything else about the place at this time, such as if it is a new business or one that relocated.

The previous tenant at No. 76 was the Jasna Hair Studio.

Promising sinkhole continues to be promising on East 7th Street

We'll continue to monitor this one on East Seventh Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

We're currently analyzing the brake marks to see what the vehicle's speed was prior to being swallowed up by the sinkhole. Also, someone left behind their sinkhole measuring apparatus.

Sidewalk reopens on 7th Street at 2nd Avenue

Jimmy's No. 43 proprietor Jimmy Carbone let us know that the new sidewalk is now open on the north side of Seventh Street at Second Avenue... this section of sidewalk had been boarded up since the deadly explosion and fire on March 26. (The sidewalk in front of where 119-123 Second Ave. stood remains closed.)

Seventh Street west of Second Avenue reopened to traffic last Friday.

Workers removed the barricades early this evening... opening up Seventh Street west of Second Avenue to traffic again for the first time since the deadly gas explosion on March 26...

Salon V leaving East 7th Street after 10 years

The 10-year-old hair salon is on the move from 96 E. Seventh St. to 10 E. Eighth St. between Fifth Avenue and University Place...



The move Saturday then opens up a chunk of prime storefronts between Avenue A and First Avenue. Salon V's neighbor, Angelo Lambrou's custom bridal gown boutique, recently decamped to Midtown.

You may have seen some sort of film shoot going on today on East Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... we walked back and forth dozens of times thinking it was connected to "The Smurfs," which filmed right here back in the heady days of April 2010.

Tea Drunk coming soon to East Seventh Street

Red, the boutique featuring jewelry and apparel from owner Donatella Quintavalle, closed back in March on East Seventh Street next to Butter Lane ... a tipster notes the arrival of a sign announcing a new tenant — Tea Drunk.

Don't be alarmed by the name!

Red Boutique space for lease on East 7th Street

Red, the boutique featuring jewelry and apparel from owner Donatella Quintavalle, has apparently closed here at 123 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue. For lease signs went up late last week. (The listing isn't online yet at Besen Realty.) No word of a closure or relocation on the Red website, Facebook page or Twitter account.

Red opening here in 2009... taking over the space from Locks 'n' Lads, the hair salon for kids.

[Updated] Water main break on East 7th Street; no water between B and C today

Dave on 7th reports there is a water main break on East Seventh Street at Avenue C. Crews are on the scene now — since roughly 4 a.m. The water has been shut off here on East Seventh Street for the time being. DEP notices say that the water could be off for up to 16 hours ... one resident has already expressed his or her sentiments on this flyer ...

Blackstones taking over Village Scandal space on East Seventh Street

Blackstones, the hair salon at 19 E. Seventh St., is expanding into the neighboring space recently vacated by The Village Scandal.

After a nine-year eviction battle, the landlord took possession of the Village Scandal, the longtime vintage hat shop, at 19 E. Seventh St., on Feb. 4. The shop was cleared out on Feb. 6.

The sign in the hat shop's former window notes a May opening, and "hairdressers wanted."

Come live in John Leguizamo's former home here on 'Artists Row'

A new listing appeared Friday on Streeteasy for a home at 268 E. Seventh St. between Avenue C and Avenue D ... Price: $3.9 million.

Curbed pointed out that John Leguizamo lived here at one point ... take a look...









Leguizamo watchers on the block figure that the actor moved away here about 10-11 years ago... the listing notes that this was a single-family home now split up into three residences — "perfect for a single user or investor."

The Sotheby's listing also notes that the "townhouse sits on 'Artists Row' in the vibrant East Village Community."



Artists Row? (Sure, Kiki Smith lives on this block, but...)

We couldn't find anyone whoever heard of this block being called Artists Row.

"That's the first I've ever heard of this term as well," said Andrew Berman, executive director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. "Certainly I've known of people in the arts who have lived in houses in this row over the years, but the term may be a relatively new broker creation."

EV Grieve Eatery Etc.: Taureau owner bringing new concept to East Seventh St.; Local 269 looks done

A few weeks ago, we noted that Taureau, the BYOB fondue place at 127 E. Seventh St., moved away from the East Village. The eatery relocated to 558 Broome St. Meanwhile, workers have been sanding the floors and painting the exterior and what not.

Now our friends at the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop a few storefronts away report that a familiar face is returning... the owner of Taureau, Didier Pawlicki, will open another French bistro in the space... and he hopes to have it up and running soon.

[Last month]

Unfortunately, it looks like the end of Local 269, the live music venue on East Houston and Suffolk. A flood apparently KO'd their sound system. Per a reader: "Recently they were having a hard time making ends meet and paying their bills/liquor distributors and I once [saw] the manager carting in cases of beer from a local bodega."

And now, a "To be Determined" applicant is on the CB3/SLA October docket.

Taureau has moved away from the East Village

Taureau, the BYOB fondue place at 127 E. Seventh St., recently moved away from the East Village. The place opened in April 2010, and I never met a person who had eaten here. Myself included. Not a dig. Just never quite in that fondue mood.

According to the sign on the door, the eatery relocated to 558 Broome Street. The Taureau website says "the new location is more spacious, more romantic and more convenient to the subway, and still BYOB!"

More romantic? What could be more romantic than being located right next door to the Peter Jarema Funeral Home on East Seventh Street?

Back to work on the Seventh Street sinkhole

On June 22, a moving truck got stuck in a pothole-turned-sinkhole on East Seventh Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue... Crews worked to cover up the hole on June 22 and 23...

However, workers returned for the first time yesterday to finish the job...

EVG reader Chris Kilmer notes that some residents along have been without gas service since Jun 22 ... Via Chris, some aerial views of the extensive sinkhole-sewer repair...
