From crabs to wings on 1st Avenue?

Photos by Steven

Opening soon signs are posted on the plywood outside 225 First Ave. for Buffalo Wild Wings here between 13th Street and 14th Street...
Given this era of fake coming soon signage, we contacted BWW's corporate office to verify the arrival. (We will update if they respond.) BWW has other locations in and around the metropolitan area, so it wouldn't be a shocker if they decided to open one here.

And they may have some good consumer data. If this is legit, this makes for the fourth wings joint on First Avenue between St. Mark's Place and 14th Street (Dan and John's, Atomic Wings, Koko Wings) ... not to mention Wingstop around the corner on 14th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.

This retail space was most recently, for a year, Crab Du Jour.

2nd Avenue about to get Sauced Up! (with wings)

The Sauced Up! signage has arrived at 77 Second Ave. between Fourth Street and Fifth Street...

Aside from various wing offerings, the quick-serve shop will sell a variety of French fries and tater tots and sandwiches (menu here) ...

The applicant was on their month's CB3 agenda for a beer-wine license. According to the questionnaire on file at the CB3 website, the applicant previously ran House of Hookah in Bayside. (The questionnaire notes one bust for a sale to a minor in the past three years.)

The previous restaurant here, Hot Box, "closed for renovations" this past summer after 14 months in business and never reopened.

Petition asks new owners of the Great Jones Cafe to keep the wings on the menu

Someone has created a petition asking the new owners of the Great Jones Cafe at 54 Great Jones St. to keep the wings on the restaurant's menu.

Per the petition:

We believe that the famous Great Jones Cafe wings should be put on the menu of the restaurant taking its place. NYers join our crusade!

As for the new Great Jones Cafe, the owners will be updating the menu, featuring a lot less Cajun-influenced fare as the original, which opened in 1983. However, one of the owners, Avi Burn, said the other day that they "will pay homage to the old menu with some GJ classics and some inspiration from the old menu." Perhaps that might mean wings.

In 2012, Complex bestowed the Best Wings in NYC crown upon the Great Jones Cafe, writing:

Doused in a homemade hot sauce that hits all the right sweet and savory notes, the wings have the crispy skin chicken wing lovers would die for. But that sauce—the sauce is so good that, after you've finished the wings, you'll drag all the thin slices of carrot and other veggies that garnish the platter through the dregs just to keep the flavor in your mouth.

And the wings looked like this, not like in the petition photo...
