The side of the former Rhong Tiam space is a nice spot to give away furniture
East Village eatery etc.: Ramen wars on Fifth Street; soft serve for Roastown Coffee
Dunno how new this is... but someone did recently ask me about gluten-free pizza...this is at Pie on Fourth Avenue near 12th Street....
Song 7.2 on Second Avenue at Seventh Street now features dumplings on a stick...
And, as this photo via Blue Glass show, all of Song 7.2's "back to school" specials feature alcohol....
Kubo has opened on East Fifth Street in the former Le Gamin/Village Bistro East space.... right next to Minca Ramen Factory...the ramen war is on!
And! Roastown Coffee, opening soon on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place, WILL have soft-serve cream as a tipster initially reported... we watched them bring in the machines Saturday morning....

Rock you like a Billy Hurricane's
Memories: Keith Richards bought his first gun in the East Village
Keith Richards is on the cover of the October issue of Another Man magazine.... In the interview, he discusses his state during the height of his heroin addiction... in which he figured he needed a gun for protection...
"The first one I bought was a Luger I picked up in the East Village in New York City.
"After that I went into rifles for a bit just because they go further.
"I've carried a piece or two now and again — most of that was to do with the heroin business and being involved in, like, scoring. Especially in America, it bodes you well to be armed.
"A .38 Smith and Wesson Airweight revolver — that is the fucking gun. No safety on it."
And we're off!
So! The Select Bus Service starts on the M15 today...we checked in here on First Avenue near Third Street to see what was what and what not....
MTA officials were onhand to make sure things were going smoothly... at this time, there were more MTA people than actual passengers... one rider asked if he had to give the ticket to the driver. Nope, you just get on... Things went off here without a hitch...
We'll see how things go Tuesday in the first full rush hour (since, like, a lot of people don't have to work on Columbus Day tomorrow...)

MTA preps for M15 SelectService
The M15 Select Bus Service starts tomorrow... and MTA crews are working on Second Avenue making final preparations....like changing the schedules and what not...
Still waiting for the over/under on how smoothly this will work...

90 minutes before opening time at Zum Schneider
So much for my advice that you need to get there early for Octoberfest....
There was a healthy line forming here on Avenue C at Seventh Street a few hours before... ZS opens at 1. And tomorrow is the last day for Octoberfest.

What's on at the picture show?
Here at the Village East Cinema on Second Avenue and 12th Street...
I'm just glad that "I Spit on Your Grave" wasn't placed next to "Nuremberg."

Powerful new Twitter account rolls into the East Village
Oh, you remember our orange Lamborghini post from earlier? Yes, it now has a Twitter account.
Per @EVLambo:
"Orange Lamborghini" is the new "90's Range Rover" in the EV. For serious.
Fuckin' A, baby! Let's do it!!!

[Updated] False alarm at the Mystery Lot
An EV Grieve reader and fellow Mystery Lot aficionado sent along this e-mail earlier today:
There's something going on there this morning. Looks like some wooden platforms have created a path from the base of the large building under construction on the corner of 14th and 3rd. And some dirty metal things (scaffolding parts?) are being placed on them. I hope this leads to some sort of haunted house installation. Likely not.
Then! Before EV Grieve could scramble onto the scene for a photo... the reader wrote back:
Well...it's gone now.
(The platform, not the Mystery Lot)
[Cursing at sky]
UPDATED!
A Curbed reader got a photo of the mystery structure....

Finally ... and talking about nice cars...
Headline of the day: 'Show-Tune-Singing NYU Pukers Make Neighbor's Life a Living Hell'
That comes courtesy of Curbed, who has a piece on an Eighth Street apartment owner near NYU. Oh, the regret of picking this spot!
Show tunes? I'll sing show tunes!
Not all New Yorkers have to deal with drunken drama students screaming show tunes at the top of their lungs at 4 a.m. ... And then there’s the vomit. It’s more of a weekend phenomenon, especially around the bars in Washington Square.
Show tunes? I'll sing show tunes!
And now, visual confirmation of the orange Lamborghini
Yesterday, Foursquare's Dennis Crowley tweeted: There's nothing more out of place than an orange Lamborghini in the East Village.
And now, thanks to EV Grieve reader Joe, we have visual confirmation of said car:

New tenant making move on southwest corner of 14th and Third
After sitting dormant for nearly 22 months, the prime patch of real estate on the southwest corner of 14th Street and Third Avenue apparently has an incoming tenant... workers just put up the freshly painted green plywood...
Robin Raj moved a few hundred feet away on Third Avenue in early 2009... At the time, Curbed heard from the RR guys that the new landlord wanted $60,000 a month in rent. (Heh, oh boy...)
I quickly looked at the DOB records... nothing too alarming afoot... nothing like, a mate for 123 Third Ave. ... Per the DOB:
Even with three Duane Reades and one Walgreens within a block or two of here ... I have to go with a Duane Reade...
Previously on EV Grieve:
