Ben & Jerry's is now open on St. Mark's Place

Ben & Jerry's is at 24 St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue... and their hours...

As noted before, there was a Ben & Jerry's outpost at 41 Third Ave. between Ninth Street and 10th Street for 22 years before its closure in September 2010.

Previously on EV Grieve:
7 years later, a Ben & Jerry's is returning to the East Village

Eh, I'll pick up a pint next time I'm at the grocery store. Get off my back.

Yes, yes, yes! Delighted to have them back - I've missed the shop at 41 Third Ave. and will be happy to patronize their new location. (Sorry, Sundaes & Cones on 10th St., you're too chaotic and expensive for me - and you have NO idea how to make a real egg cream, even after it was explained to you that a REAL egg cream does NOT have ice cream in it.)

If I'm not mistaken the first Ben & Jerry's was at 2nd Ave and 9th in the old Orchidia Restaurant. It didn't last very long... too expensive for the poor old hood.

If these are their winter hours, what can we expect during peak season? All night scoops?

I believe after Orchidia it was briefly "Steve's Ice Cream", not Ben and Jerry's.

Gojira - Ben & Jerry's opened here loooong before the ice cream boom and bust albeit in a previous location many years before, so I wouldn't include them in all that. I mean technically yeah but I give props to B&J for opening in areas in the city alot of non-burger/bank chains wouldn't open in like East Harlem (and the East Village in the late '80s or early '90s.)

Trust me, Anon. 1:28, I well remember B & J on Third Avenue, but at that point they were pretty much the only dedicated ice cream store in the neighborhood so filled a need. Now, since we've been overrun with other frozen dessert establishments, not so much, hence my comment. And yes, Anon. 12:38, you're correct re Steve's going into the old Orchidia space.

Ben and Jerry are awesome! They sold out but are still politically active in all the right ways and use their company for good.

Thanks for Steve's...

Does anyone remember the ice cream store that B&J's ripped off for the recipes? The store had the signature Cherry Garcia before B&J had it. I remember sampling it. The store was on the south side of St. Mark's, mid-block.

1:28pm back. I think Ben & Jerry's fills a need: good ice cream which is nonexistent outside of Mikey's Ice Cream :) I just don't think they add to the congestion. If anything they and Mikey's will challenge and hopefully drive out the crap.
