I.Q. Decor closing on 14th Street
Several EVG readers have pointed out the IQ Decor is closing on 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue...
Closing signs arrived last week at the store that sells discounted toys, housewares, rubber boots, cleaning products, NYC gifts, luggage, etc., etc. (Last day for now is Feb. 28.)
The Saving$ Paradise shop at 250 E. 14th St. merged with I.Q. Decor in the spring of 2016.
This closure, I believe, brings an end to any discounted shops on 14th Street between Avenue B and Third Avenue.

motherf*cking BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Yep, the end of discount shops on 14th Street - b/c those of us who shop there are supposed to go away. I'm very sorry to see the end of yet another mom-and-pop store in our area.
That this trend is the only reason I'm in favor of the Target that will be opening; I find Target to be affordable for regular people (same as KMart). But I sure do miss the wonderful small local shops!
Dammit.
Kmart now IQ. We don't have to worry about inflation... just the loss of discount stores. I know, I know Target is opening. But Target is suburban discounting. I'm talking down and dirty New York discounting... I mean where else can you get Panasonic AA and AAA batteries for 2 bucks!? Nowhere. That's where. 99! 99! 99! 99! They will be missed.
Psst...cmarrty panasonic batteries 99 cents at Jacks on 33rd street

Lot Less stores, Canal Street, 8th Avenue above 34th Street, etc. Manhattan-wise, discount store Vahalla in the outer boroughs.
Little candy stores sell a pack of two Duracell AAs for $2.
I'm really sad about this, but I was fearing it might happen after the next-door accessories (hats, gloves, scarves, bags, luggage) shop closed last year. I loved that place, with the badass lady proprietress who kept me in pristine black cotton-knit fingerless gloves ($4!) and classic wool berets for 15 years. I always loved stopping to look at IQ's windows full of Tamagotchi, Hello Kitty, and other cute little toys. It was a happy place. :(
Boooooooooo
