Left up for grabs this afternoon outside the former DF Mavens space on St. Mark's Place and Second Avenue...
Steven, who took these photos, said that the Audrey Hepburn print was claimed fairly quickly... can't say the same thing for the retail space.
DF Mavens, the vegan ice cream shop,
closed nearly two years ago to the date... and the prime corner storefront has remained tenant free since then...

I barely remember DF Mavens.
Thank god someone removed that painting so we can see those breathtaking new LinkNYC kiosks!
Got their Key Lime ice cream - (at Whole Foods Houston in a pint container on sale), it was very very tasty.
LITERALLY
They did have good ice cream. It wasn’t carnival food, and there are plenty of respectable East Village neighbors that prefer non-dairy ice cream once in a while. Which is obviously not often enough. I was bummed when they closed.
At this point, hasn't it been gone for longer than it was around?
It's absurd that a space like this remains closed so long, as well as spaces to the west. Why doesn't supply and demand work in the commercial real estate market?
That corner is cursed. The Gap couldn’t make it work there. A few doors down even 7-Eleven couldn’t make a go of it. The pizza and the ice cream places that came later couldn’t make it. I don’t know what DF Mavens was thinking, but they have to be the first frozen dessert store in history to both open and close during a blizzard. Whoever owns the building is really overestimating the walking traffic on that corner. They need to reduce the rent and just get a tenant in there that can survive.
Bring back St. Mark's Cinema! (Although I'm sure it would cost more than 2 bucks now.)
If Marijuana is ever legalized in NYS, this corner would be a great spot to open a specialty shop MJ Mavens. Yogurt and MJ in one bite....now that just might work.
