Hello again: Sidewalk on the NW corner of 2nd Avenue and 9th Street returns to view

The longstanding sidewalk bridge is coming down today on the NW corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street — aka 145 Second Ave. (thanks to Steven for the photos)...
... which has to make management at Whiskers at 235 E. Ninth St. happy...
The sidewalk bridge and scaffolding had been up since May 2018.

Hopefully, this is for keeps now. Workers removed the sidewalk bridge in April 2021 ... only to return one week later

The corner space (Starbucks until April 2019) is being renovated for a fast-casual restaurant called Balkan Streat.

It's been a great couple of weeks for sidewalk bridge removal! The one on Ave A near 5th coming down was life-changing.

Wonderful. These monstrosities are such eyesores which can remain for years.

Let’s not count the chickens before they hatch. As noted, the scaffolding was previously taken down then returned. As of Tuesday morning, the metal framework remains. Hopefully they’re not having second thoughts!

The A and 5th one caught me by surprise. So airy now.

They’ve been playing this game on 9th St/First Ave for about 20 years now. They pulled down the bridge after about 15 years, planted new trees in the sidewalk holes, and then put the bridge back up 9 months later. My years count might be off, but it does seem like forever.

It looks like the scaffolding around the ex-Duane Reade on Fourth Ave and 14th St is coming down as well. And they seem to be entering the final stages of work on Cooper Union as well, though the full scaffolding there remains in place

Interesting to note most sidewalk scaffolding is generally up on average for 3 years.
