On an unseasonably warm evening, bars throughout the city hosted Election Night watch parties, capping what some media outlets called a "historically tumultuous and competitive election season" in a deeply divided nation.
Here's a look around at a few East Village watering holes...
For some places, it was business as usual, such as Lydia's on First Avenue, where sports dominated the TVs.
On Second Avenue, Downtown Social had the largest turnout of any place I went (by a landslide). It was a viewing party for the New York Young Republicans. There was a long line and tight security. While I wasn't permitted inside, security allowed me to take photos from the outside.
The bars were all likely closed when, at 5:34 a.m., the Associated Press called the race, reporting that Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States.

Now is the winter of our discontent.
Nothing to do with the election just a lovely night in the EV. One of my best friends who had been out of the country for a while was telling me how happy she was to be back in NY. Excellent food at Curry Palace on E 6th St. - Spicy Manchurian veg, smoky Tikka Paneer, and Chicken saag were all standouts. Proper condiments and garlic naan. Better still we were blown away by the drinks at Superbueno on 1st ave. The Vodka Y Soda and Pineapple Slushy were off the charts amazing. Btw this place was just rated one of the 50 best bars on the planet which might be a wee bit of a stretch but definitely has my highest recommendation. Never gets old, EV still rules!
Shame on you, XTC. Your post reads like a paid influencer Yelp review. Posting about partying in the E.V. while the USA and our allies in Ukraine and NATO are being threatened by a fascist that was just re-elected President is shocking.
