Pier died earlier this year at age 82.
She opened Dinosaur Hill in 1983 at 306 E. Ninth St. just east of Second Avenue, filling the shop with wooden toys, puppets, games, books, puzzles and other decidedly non-electronic diversions.
After 37 years in business, Pier retired and closed Dinosaur Hill in late 2020. As we reported at the time, the shop had become a destination for generations of neighborhood families.
The celebration will take place Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at Green Oasis & Gilbert's Sculpture Garden, 370 E. Eighth St. between Avenues C and D.
The gathering is open to friends, neighbors and others who knew Pier and Dinosaur Hill. RSVPs are requested here.

That shop was so magical. I missed it when it closed. Rest in peace, dear Pamela.
Thank you for creating such a magical store for children and families to explore and adore.
Her shop was a dream and the window displays were always so beautiful. RIP.
Dinosaur Hill was my go-to shop for many years for all the babies and children I've been so lucky to know! Pam and her store was such a wonderful presence on E 9th!
Actually, I never had any kids, but I went to Dinosaur Hill often. Another toy store, The March Hare, opened on 9th street after DH closed; I'm glad it's there, but nothing will ever replace DH.
I was so sorry to miss this, as I was out of town. I heard there was a great turn out with many wonderful stories, which I was especially sorry to hear.
Pam and Dinosaur Hill were such a vital part of this neighborhood, and was a magical source for all things child-related, as well as for many of us "grown up children" in the 'hood!
RIP, Pam.
